it's big, it's all over, in fact, it goes to Moab
May 2020
basically, i try to avoid the KoKo, not 'cause of any perceived lack of scenery, terrain, etc. but because it's gotten so crowded! today (e.g.) my spouse and i went to a similar place (not quite so scenic, but, heck, you get to the top and gaze into the Gunnison River) and were the only ones there!

Very Diverse Trail System
Apr 2019 • Friends
The true Kokopelli's that starts in western Colorado and ends in Moab Utah is quite varied offering a variety of technical challenges. I have not totally completed this trail in its entirety, but have rode most of it in Colorado and parts in Utah. The scenic beauty is unmatched for desert scenery. Whether you hike or bike all or part I think you will be most pleased.

Two very different experiences under the "Kokopelli" heading
Nov 2018 • Friends
To some, Kokopelli refers tot eh 100+ mile mostly dirt road route from Fruita to Moab. To others it refers to the stacked loop trail network just off exit 14. Either way, whether you're looking for a multi day bikepacking adventure, or some fast or gnarly quick local loops, Koko delivers.

which trail is the best? there are a lot of them... I liked... this does not matter at all... what matters is that this place (Colorado National Monument) is definitely worthy visiting and enjoying... GO FOR IT!

As challenging as you want it to be

Accessed the trail from the great campground in Rabbit Valley. Amazed to find a trail that welcomes hikers, mountain bikers, AND motorcycles. A mix of dirt roads and singletrack, with some slickrock and a gravelly wash thrown in for good measure. Everyone we saw was riding respectfully and enjoying the amazing terrain and views.

This is an awesome trail, for sure. It can be busy with other trail users, but just get up early and get riding!

Trail from Fruita to Moab vs Loops near Fruita
Apr 2017 • Couples
I always find this name confusing. To my knowledge, Kokopelli Trail is the 150 mile mountain biking trail from Loma CO (near Fruita) to Moab, UT. It is an amazing route - it includes a lot of old jeep trails, some pavement and some very challenging single track sections. My husband and cousin did this over 4 days. They found some of the areas to be poorly signed. Some of the areas were really rough (one area in particular was full of ruts from sheep herds). The cousin is an excellent biker, though more road than mountain. My husband was a newbie. But, they did it and had fun. The weather can be challenging - especially the desert sections.

My guys chose to use me as road support - meeting them in the evening. So they didn't do a straight through trip (you really have to carry a lot, unless you can do this in one day - and only really experienced bikers can do this).

Kokopelli Loops is a series of hiking/biking loops from Loma (Rustlers, Mary's, Wranglers, Steve's, Moore Fun, etc) that are between 4 and 10+ miles. These are fun and no where near as strenuous as the Kokopelli Trail!

Both of these are well worth the visit - the Loops are great for hikers as well as bikers.

Must see for Bikers

This nice trail is paved most of the way winds along the Colorado river. It has easy access and the view is outstanding. Make sure to watch the water levels in the river during runoff as some of the trail is actually covered by the expanded river, usually only in parts of May or June. We walk the path often and highly recommend this to everyone wanting to get out for a nice walk.

Good mtb options close to Fruita
Oct 2016 • Solo
Fun options close to Fruita. Mary's and Steve's trails were scenic and fun for most with good fitness and mtb skills. Horse thief loop is fun for those with more intermediate skills, but involves a steep, rocky hike-a-bike section to start and finish. Newbies should stick to Rustler, which is well signed and still fun.

Worth a side trip

Stopped the night here on our way to Moab, UT...caught this ride at the recommendation of a local, well worth the time! Nothing too technical, very few climbs, level for the most part with beautiful views! Worth it if you have some extra time in Fruita!
