A well organized schooner sailing experience. About thirty guests and a crew of four travelled two hours on the York River. Covid-19 presentations and USCG Safety Briefings were appropriate. The challenge for this vendor is an unusually large number of uncontrolled variables. Our experience was a sun-free, sunset cruise, a sailing experience without wind and an offering of amenities limited by Covid-19 controls. With no outside food and beverage allowed, we were limited to house wine, beer and soft drinks, some snacks and cold hot dogs, all offered for sale at reasonable rates.
The Mate providing the spiel regarding schooners, sailing and local history was informative and helpful but not able to give guests full attention during her sailing duties. The Guest areas on deck are minimal, uncomfortable and not conducive to social distancing. No availability to restroom facilities was problematic for several guests from the start.

It was our 50th Anniversary and we invited 18 friends and family to be our guest on board the Sunset Cruise to celebrate. Every single one of us thought this was the best party starter they had ever gone to. We loved the two young men who gave their talk about the boat and safety talk and the history of the Yorktown Bay. They knew what they were talking about and sprinkled in just enough humor to make it really interesting. The weather coopered by giving us the perfect sunset (much like in the picture above.) The only thing that was confusing was the 2 different departure times on THEIR emails. One said they leave at 6:30 and another said 6:40. We got there at 6:33 and the Captain let us know we were holding things up and was suppose to leave at 6:30 PROMTLY. All in all it was GREAT!!!!

The sunset cruise aboard the Alliance was a wonderful experience. The weather was not very co-operative with little to no wind but our captain and crew did manage to raise the sails, glide a little and we did actually sail a bit. Since it was calm, the crew spotted some dolphins and we circled them watching their show and play. The clouds impeded a good view of the sunset but our captain treated us to a trip under the bridge while we all held our breath knowing the captain knew his mast heights but still feeling like there was no way we'd make it under the bridge. Obviously we did, with room to spare I'm sure. All in all, it was exciting and our crew member sharing the history of the area was wonderful and well informed. I would definitely recommend this trip and will do it again on my next visit to Yorktown.

The 2 hour Sunset cruise set sail despite the clouds and forecast, if Captain Laura had everyone's best interest in mind, the cruise would have been cancelled and guests given the option to receive a refund or reschedule. Instead we were packed on a sailboat with very little seating, forced to sit on hatchways and then asked to moved continuously so they could move the sails. Their own company guidelines indicate social distancing & reduced capacity for a comfortable relaxing cruise. NONE of this was true. My family of 7 boarded ( tickets were purchased on July 10 - well in advance of the cruise.) to find a few seats on top of life jacket boxes already taken. We sat on hatches and was asked to move. With no were else to sit, I sat on the deck, again, I was asked to move. The safety guidelines that I clearly read before I spent $300 on tickets for the 7 of us, stated, there would be reduced capacity on the ship and that social distancing would be enforced. Social distance is not possible when there is NO where to sit. Weather cannot be controlled but management should have cancelled. Laura stating "oh well, you saw dolphins" wasn’t consoling to me.

Lovely cruise! The crew was diligent in explaining and monitoring all water and COVID safety regs, and all passengers were respectful of those protocols. Our sail was delayed a few minutes due to threat of a pop up storm, but the captain graciously volunteered to extend the tour. Adults and children were invited to participate in hoisting the sails. Really interesting narrative of local history of the area and water was shared during the cruise by one of the crew. Highly recommend!

Sunset cruise was a lot of fun and very informative about the Battle of Yorktown and other areas along the coast. The Alliance Schooner is beautiful vessel and the crew were easy going and added humor to the stories. Had snacks (cokes, beer, chips etc..) available for purchase. Bring a jacket for the evening cruise. Would do again and would definitely recommend.

We came down from Vermont to visit friends knowing that what we could do nearly anywhere was fairly restrictive and while walking through historic old Yorktown, we noticed your sign and said "Ta Daa!!, that's IT!" The best part is: It was IT.
The Captain was a superb host and his two mates both entertaining and informative and the trip in the old Yorktown river was relaxing, exciting and informative. I find it very easy to suggest this venue to everyone who visits!

Our sail was on a Sunday evening on a very cloudy evening. The ship looked beautiful, the crew was was so welcoming and in positive spirits. Within 1/2 an hour of sailing, the sun shone through the clouds and the rest of the experience was even more amazing! The captain was correct when he said our crew were very well rounded. They gave us ship information, historical information on the area, showed us the area sights and were our entertainment with their ship antics, their jokes and just interaction with all of us! We will be back!!

We thoroughly enjoyed our sailing trip with Yorktown Sailing. It was a wonderful experience. The crew was very informative about the ship but also the local sights we sailed by. They enlisted passengers to help raise the sails, take a turn at steering the ship, and answered all questions presented to them. The experience was wonderful and I would recommend this to anyone visiting the Yorktown area. Family friendly

We chose the sunset cruise after a long day of sightseeing including the museum, monument, beach and dinner. We were lucky to see many dolphins and even luckier to hear all the area history from the crew. They were quite knowledgeable. I’m glad we chose to do this activity. It was THE best thing we did!

Price for Pirate Cruise-3 adults and one child (5).

We have done both the pirate and site seeing your and enjoyed both. Our grandson enjoyed the interaction on both tours. We travel to Williamsburg quit offen but usually the late fall and winter time. We had wanted to do this tour for years but it was not operating when we were in the area. We made it a point this year to come down early to do this and we were glad we did.

I'm having trouble finding prices and schedule. The website gives me a link to, what looks like, a third party site that used to sell tickets but don't any longer. What is the price for an afternoon sail per adult? We are planning a late April-early May trip. Thanks.
Written December 2, 2016
Yes, Debbie is correct. $37 per adult for the 2 hour sightseeing cruises. We sail at 11am, 2pm and 6pm at that time of year. You can purchase tickets up to one month ahead so please check back in early April.
