This was such a nice surprise, we spent several hours checking out the local art in the hallways of this beautiful building. Then the courtroom where Perry Mason was filmed. Everyone we met was very helpful and wanted to talk about their City.

Worth walking around the building just to look at the architecture and some of the ceiling fixtures. I was there for a City Hall meeting at night.

Although the primary government functions of Ventura County have moved across town, to me the old Ventura City Hall represents a grandeur that was not all that common in other country townships, and is still an excellent example of regional architecture. Situated up on the side of a hill that once was the "high road" in Ventura (Poli Street), the... More

I love this old building. My father was a court reporter there when it was the Court House prior to becoming City Hall. The third floor held the jail and all of us children were afraid of the shadows we saw in the windows. It is also rumored to be haunted, but I did not venture up to the top... More

The Ventura City hall is a beautiful building, both inside and out, as it overlooks California Street and the Pacific Ocean. If you are visiting on a weekday, be sure and explore it. Be sure to notice the Friar's faces on the outside (some people say the faces are those of the building's craftsmen), the marble floors leading to the... More

City Hall was once the one and only County Courthouse and slated for demolition because it did not meet modern seismic safety standards. Thankfully, it was rescued from that fate by the City of Ventura (San Buenaventura to be correct), who bought the building from the County and invested millions in it's restoration in the early 70's. It stands as... More

We did a drive by of this location, the story to this building was very interesting, can't believe it was to be torn down at one time. It is a beautiful work of art.

downtown Ventura is full of nice historic buildings. This is the top one. Use it to start a shopping/browsing/eating tour of old Ventura. Lots of restaurants--many with outside seating. Lots of shops--no chains. Almost no empty buildings this old downtown is doing well. It would be even nicer without the homeless, but they do not seem menacing in any way--just... More

The area of downtown had lots of nice looking buildings and a view of the ocean - sits on the side of hill. But - there were homeless people everywhere. Good weather and a welfare state my attract them.
