After a long drive the beach is the place to relax. The Ventura Pier and Promenade are two places to do just that. Whether you want to stare out at the ocean and ponder life or people watch these two places are worth your time.

The pier is a wonderful piece of history and well worth the exercise of the walk to the end. It was great to meet the locals fishing off the pier and to see their catches.

I visited the pier after 5 pm. People were starting to pack up and leave. It is fun to watch the sailboats as they come and go.

The pier is great any time of the day with people fishing or just taking in the views. You often get to see a pelican or two and we missed out on a visiting sea lion this time.

The pier is iconic to Ventura. The restaurants at the head have classic seafood; especially the fish tacos at the Beach House. It is a popular spot for fishing "off the pier" and for watching the surfers off Surfer's Point. Be sure to read the...More
