The whole city of El Paso and much of the Chihuahuan Basin sprawls below this much-visited vantage point. But, as many an El Paso resident can tell you, the city shows itself better by night than by day, when haze and dust render the view flat and unattractive. Day visitors are better advised to tour the Rim Road neighborhood at the base of the drive, site of some of El Paso's most beautiful homes.

This was my second trip to El Paso, but first excursion to the Overlook. If you are new to El Paso or visiting for the first time, I strongly recommend taking the time to get your bearings. The East side of the Range is totally different than the West.

Short but nice drive. We walked on Rim Road, which has a lot of nice houses. Good views of El Paso and Juarez. A couple of nice overlooks. The drive at night could be interesting with the city lit up, but I would be wary of the overlooks, as the liquor bottles and trash left behind indicate a less desirable atmosphere at night. Good to do if in El Paso, not going worth going out of the way.

I admit I am a fan of this kind of place, but I really enjoyed coming up here and looking out over the two cities. We were just passing through El Paso, and I heard about this scenic drive. It was a lot of fun getting up here, and once we got to the parking area with the monuments and such, we spent a good half an hour looking down on the city. It was fun trying to pick out the border with Mexico and trying to identify other things. It was especially nice because we could see for 50 miles. Two days later I was in Los Angeles and couldn't see a thing.

Drove up on sunny yet windy day. We had a super clear view of the city. Kids 14, 12, & 10 had fun using the quarter operated binocular things they have at the look out point. Good if you have some time, you can drive straight through or park for a bit. Our visit was about 15 minutes.

Excellent salad and soup bar. Beyond that positive expression, we found the main courses of steak and prime rib to be sub-par and disappointing. Wait service was equally disappointing as our waiter seemed preoccupied with other customers. Perhaps they were understaffed or had other issues that affected our dining experience. Regardless, this will not be on our list of future dinner stops on our next visit El Paso.

I have never seen such vast expanses of differing terrain. I thought Africa was huge, but so is Texas!!! If you are at all interested in geology or volcanology, this is a must. Just don’t try Old Maverick road unless you have a serious four wheel drive vehicle!

I’ve been visiting this spot since I was a teen, every time I visit family in El Paso. This time I got to experience it with my husband and kids for their first time. The view was unusually clear-not the usual dust clouds obscuring the horizon. The drive to and from takes you through some pretty El Paso neighborhoods. However, may not for those who are afraid of heights.

The winding road takes you past some nice big houses. There are a few places that you can stop and see the view across Texas and into Mexico. We went during the day. It was pretty and it takes less than 20 minutes. Short trip with good photo opportunities.

Let's be honest.... Ft. Worth isn't the most attractive city, and Juarez is an impoverished mess, so while you can take in a lot here, and it will wow you for a second, it's just not a beautiful sight. Maybe it's better at night with the lights.
