Nice, 50 acre natural setting for a zoo.

My family and I visited the Catoctin Zoo over the weekend. We have a 3 year old and a 5 month old. We also met my parents there. My first impression upon exiting the gift shop where you buy tickets, is how nice and natural the setting was. You don't immediately see large metal cages and enclosures. We visited the... More

I've been going to this zoo for over 10 years now. Yes, it may be a little pricey but beings as it is a family run zoo that probably survives off of it's visitors I love the place. I've been here on days when I've been able to see the keepers interact with the wild cats...back in the days where... More

First thing. Go to the bathroom as soon as you go into the park because it is the only real bathroom, despite the deceptive bathroom signs on their maps! The rest are gross port o potties. We went in August before school started and the entire safari was closed. Ok, so the rest of the park is fairly nice. Mostly... More

Nice variety of animals, for not having travelled further (into Baltimore or DC). Their feed cups are now plastic with lids, so you get a small souvenir with the purchase of feed for the animals. Entire staff friendly and park pretty much uncrowded since local schools are now in session. Kids were happy to see a mama goat in labor... More

We hadn't been here in many years and considering the price, it will be a while before we return. As others have mentioned: paths aren't well marked and the paths are rocky and uneven. Felt bad for the wolves who were pacing in such a small enclosure.

We took two grandchildren to the zoo yesterday. We bought feed to feed the fish, turtles, goats and other animals. Every one of the bottles of hand sanitizes were empty. This was very disappointing and unsanitary. I would not go back to this zoo.

This zoo is trying, but could definitely improve conditions. It is rather expensive, especially with the safari ride. We enjoyed our visit and enjoyed the shade and flowering plants. On the safari ride, bread was handed out for us to feed to the buffalo at one stop. we could also purchase other food. The safari ride was shady, but there... More

We were there on a super hot day, and my 8 and 9 yo daughters felt bad for the animals. The animals were hot and in small enclosures, as other reviewers described in detail. We took the safari ride, and it was a little odd to see piles of concrete within the enclosures. I never figured out their point. I'm... More
