I enjoyed my visit very much. If you are interested in a museum related to the public transportation, then most certainly you need to do it in the city with the most developed and the best public transportation in North America.
I could feel people who put it together did it with a lot of love for what they do. Everything is authentic (which is not easy to find nowadays), well displayed, easy to navigate, easy to read. I could sit in the old train and imagine being surrounded by passengers from bygone era, the beginning of the 20th Century. Even advertisement boards in subway cars are real too. Very nice.

The museum shop has some very unique items, the selection is better than in their other shop in Grand Central. 10 dollars ticket price is quite reasonable.

There were many families with small kids and strollers. The museum is kids friendly for sure and offers some kids activities.

I highly recommend a visit. 5 very strong stars.

The actual museum is in Brooklyn. This one has just a few exhibits and a store. If you are nearby, it's worth a visit. If not, I would recommend going to the big one in Brooklyn.

I was really looking forward to my visit. Unfortunately, so were 4,127 of Brooklyn's best brats. It's like someone on Mumsnet is continuously sending people here to torture those who might actually want to learn about the subway system.

There's a small exhibition on how they built it. A larger one on how it coped with unexpected disasters, like 9/11. But there's no obvious flow to the place, and no logical connections. The best part is definitely the rolling stock downstairs, but that was obviously ruined by more misbehaving children. Even the very small gift shop is aimed at kids. I'd direct the management to check out the TFL Museum in London to see what they could really do with their merchandise.

If you dare to go, arrive at opening, because as I left at lunchtime, there was a very long queue down the street of people with pushchairs and noisy offspring. Pro tip: bring your noise canceling headphones and you fav tunes with you.

Take note: this is the official NYC Transit Subway Museum (kind of like the San Francisco Cable Car Museum). It is located in downtown Brooklyn. There is a gift shop in Grand Central Terminal, but the museum is in Brooklyn! It is really cool if you're into historic subway cars. The museum displays about 10 different models of historic, restored NYC subway cars in an ACTUAL subway station (that was taken out of service decades ago). You can walk onto the subway cars themselves! Lots of old maps of the NYC subway system the way it used to be over the past 100 years.

We had visited the New York Transit Museum in Brooklyn, and we were happy to see this store in the Grand Central Terminal. We were drawn in by the twinkling lights and the large train garden. It was all about Manhattan. The store offered anything and everything having to do with the transit system here in New York.

This location is an off site shop of the New York Transit Museum. The actual museum is located in downtown Brooklyn. There are displays here from time to time. One of the most popular displays is the holiday train display. It is nice to visit to see the display and pick up a few gifts during the holidays while strolling around Manhattan.

There is not much here in terms of a museum except a few vintage train sets to enjoy, but it’s a small but great place to visit and shop if you’re into trains. I grew up with a Lionel train set, which was the ‘toy of choice’ back in the day, so I always stop in when I’m in NYC to enjoy and check out the displays. But, don’t think that this is a typical museum where you could spend a few hours because it’s not. It’s small, more of a retail store filled with tee shirts and coffee mugs and normally very crowded, so plan for 30 minutes, at best!

This is more of a shop with some history in my opinion! Yes there are some historic pieces in here like original drawings, signs and plans etc but honestly this is really all it is! Certainly don’t go out of your way for this!

My sister and I grew up in NYC using the subway system as our main commute. My wife grew up near Chicago using her dad's car to get around. I didn't expect my wife to enjoy this visit but thought that my sister and I would. I was wrong. We all immensely enjoyed this museum. It has history. It has charm and it has 100 year-old subway cars to see. For my sister and I, it brought back great memories. For my wife, it created some. If you are hesitant about going, don't be. This is a wonderful museum that should not be missed if you are visiting New York City.
