Neighborhood: Greenwich Village
Commonly known as “the Village” to New Yorkers, it was here in Greenwich Village that both 1960’s counter culture and the LGBT movement were born. Famous for its bohemian past, head to Washington Square Park to get a feel for this diverse and energetic neighborhood. You’ll find NYU students, street performers, skateboarders, kids frolicking in the fountain, and locals relaxing and playing chess. Stroll the streets to discover a mix of majestic town homes and hidden bars and restaurants that give this neighborhood an old-school residential feel. When the sun goes down, check out one of the famous jazz or comedy clubs that still packs them in every night.

One of the things I was really impressed by on my visit to New York City was the number of small parks that there are around the city. Obviously there is Central Park but if you live somewhere like Chelsea or Greenwich Village then it is a bit of a trek to get there so there are lots of small green spaces for people to visit in their neighbourhoods.
Bleecker Street Playground is a perfect example of this with a decent sized play area and a small space for dogs to run around as well.
It all looked very clean and well maintained when I visited.

I walked past this playground on my way to the bus stop. Nice and well maintained. Plenty of families with young children enjoying the chilly, brisk spring day. I would definitely take my kids here for play dates if we lived un the area.

i AM 75 YEARS OLD AND LIVED IN THE WEST VILLAGE SINCE 1975 .SO HAS THE PLAYGROUND . In my opinion it has to be one of the safest places to bring your kids .Let them go and relax. You cannot get in the gated area without a child. The mothers watch the place like hawks.
What do you do when you're on vacation, The kids need some exercise , and you a place to relax.
This particular one is great for young children, and toddlers. . A swing-set with padded floor and a circular area for the riding of various kiddie contraptions is also present.
There are lots of benches for tired moms to rest on and strike up conversations with other moms while the youngsters play together.

Bleecker Street Playground is a park in the middle of the street. It’s not particularly good. Defo designed for children.

What do you do when you're on vacation, you're overwhelmed with the price of touristy activities in Manhattan, the kids need some exercise (or a chance to yell), and you just need a bench to plop down on? The playground!
This particular one is great for young children, even infants and toddlers. There is a large sandy area (don't worry, it's clean) to dig or fall in, and plenty of communal shovels and pails. A swing-set with padded floor and a circular area for the riding of various kiddie contraptions is also present. The bathrooms are pretty good too and can simultaneously accommodate an adult and a stroller.
There are lots of benches for tired caregivers to rest on and strike up conversations with other adults while the youngsters play together. In case you are worried about traffic, there is a high metal fence surrounding the playground and a gate that is difficult for even adults to open and close. Of course, you still need to be vigilant, that goes without saying. In New York City, it is a law that only adults accompanied by children may enter into Parks Department playgrounds and the adults who frequent this playground tend to be pretty vigilant.

Stopped here after walking the West Village and it was a nice place for the adults to sit down while my daughter played in the play area. It is in a nice area too

This place is such a great park for kids! It's got water features, sand, swings, two giant play places. The community also donates lots of old toys and bikes.
The only thing wrong with this park is that it tends to get pretty dirty. The trash cans constantly get overfilled, so there tends to be a lot of trash around on the ground. It makes sense, since it's in a busy area of Manhattan.
The kids definitely have a lot of fun here. I'd love it if they added a couple more swings. There's only 4!
There are public restrooms here as well, but I have not yet ventured inside. At some point I'm sure I'll have to.... Eeek!
