From the southern town of Hillsborough, New York to New York City, it is about a 1.5 mile drive. Then we drive through the Lincoln Tunnel to arrive in Manhattan.

I've always been a fan of the tunnels. Some people find them nerve wracking to drive thru. I don't mind it! The approach took 20 minutes around 8pm. Not too shabby and it cut 20 minutes off of my commute back to Long Island.

This is one way to get in and out of Manhattan. You do not take/visit the tunnel unless you must. Not much fun, but serves a purpose.

Remember to remove your sunglasses BEFORE you enter the Lincoln Tunnel. The surrounding landscape near the Lincoln Tunnel is anything but static. At present, there are condominiums being built that are blocking the view of NYC’s iconic skyline. You are only able to catch glimpses of Manhattan in-between these high-rise condos. Additionally, look to see how the skyline of HudsonYards is changing. The area is being gentrified, therefore, bringing in a mix of heights and styles of buildings. The interior of the Lincoln Tunnel is tight. You may not have a cellular signal. As you’ll be sharing the space with many huge vehicles like busses and trucks, be prepared for other vehicles to come within inches of you. If you are claustrophobic or have anxiety, let someone else take charge of the driving. If traffic is moving, you won’t be in there for very long. If, however, there is a traffic snag, be prepared to sit there.

Good way to enter into NYC. Can be backed up at times depending on whether the tunnels are open into or out of the city but once in the tunnel the traffic goes smoothly. Great to see the middle with the line of each state.

We took the Lincoln Tunnel on our way back from New Jersey, It was rather crowded, given it was Friday evening. Nonetheless, it was a box checked. Luckily there was no vehicle break-down, so we were in and out rather swiftly (despite being crowded).

We took the tunnel into the city on this trip. You can say a lot of things about it. Its expensive. There is a lot of traffic. The merges are not for the faint hearted. I think what people forget is the engineering behind it. Just think of the idea 80 years ago, we are going to build a tunnel under New York Harbor. What a crazy idea. And yet now, we can take it for granted. What would the city be like without it and how has the city grown because of it?

Like some people said it's just a tunnel but nevertheless it has historical value. It was built many many years ago and it still withstands the test of time and the weight of the Hudson River.

We flew in for thanksgiving week into Newark airport and from there our Uber driver took us through the Lincoln tunnel to get to our hotel (Riu) in the heart of Times Square). Being that it was a holiday week the tunnel was busy. 1 hour to get across. Not a bad drive though when you have a driver. Once across Manhattan was amazing!!

On the way back to the airport after a weeks stay, our Lyft driver took the same tunnel back with no traffic and it only took about 5 minutes max.

I don't blame the locals (for getting upset) that have to commute back and forth because they pay $15 for the use and on top of that they deal with the traffic. Sorry guys, but you guys live and work in a beautiful touristic city that attracts a lot of people and you can't be greedy and grumpy for the tourists getting in the way. 😊

Always an experience and sometimes the best choice to transit into NewYork City. Be aware of the toll charge if you don't have the ez card.

I always hope that the Lincoln Tunnel will not be backed up, though often it is. It is important and magnificent in its connection of New Jersey to New York and I am happy to have experienced it many times.
