Neighborhood: Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.

Went last night and was the worst Escape Room I have ever been to. First, our “assistant”/Clue Chase Employee calles himself Dr. Cool was arrogant, rude and condescending in every interaction we had with him. This was not our first rodeo, but he still treated us like we were dumb. Once we got into the room, Dr. Cool was not monitoring the room in order to provide the additional clues on time. All clues given were late and/or he entered the room and told us we were wrong without offering hints (again with attitude). On top of his condescending and disrespectful attitude, many of the props and/or mechanisms were not working properly which made solving the clues take longer and harder. Often times, Dr. Cool would spend too much time in the room resetting the props and didn’t give back the time to us. Overall, we were extremely disappointed with this experience as we have had plenty of other experiences that we fun and engaging before with and without successes. Dr. Cool’s attitude and prop failure made this experience not fun and ultimately a failure. We will not visit again.

We spoke over the phone, but I also wanted to take a moment to apologize publicly for your experience. This was a rare exception where we have failed to adhere to the high standards to which we hold ourselves accountable. Upon investigation, the issue was with the Gamemaster -- the props were fine, he had not reset the room properly. He was not watching your game closely enough, and due to that he mistimed your clues. His attitude was in no way acceptable. We have taken appropriate disciplinary steps and other measures to try to make sure this incident is not repeated. We would be delighted if you would give us another shot, so that we can show you the typical experience that we pride ourselves on giving our customers. Feel free to reach out to me directly if you would be willing to give us another try. All my best, David Chase Clue Chase President

This was my first escape room, though others in my group had done them before. We had 8 people in our group and this one definitely requires 6-8 people to keep track of things in different areas! Just the right level of difficulty though a few extra clues did help. We got out with 15 min to spare! I would totally recommend this! 👍

Only downside... they took our group picture at the end and the text link they sent had our names, our stats... BUT the photo was of a different group! That was super disappointing! We’ve tried emailing and contacting them via text but no reply. 😢

Hey MmeSLH, Thank you for the review! We really appreciate you taking some time to share your thoughts with us. We're sorry about the photo! We do our best to make sure every photo is going out to the right folks, but sometimes things can get mixed up, especially on busier days. Unfortunately the number that the photos are sent from is not actively monitored, so we can't receive texts in response to those images. We also can't find your email - although it's possible you emailed from a different account than you booked under, as we would be looking for the original booking email. Either way, we found your booking and sent your photo out, hopefully you've received our email by now! We're glad you had fun, and we hope to see you again sometime!

Our game master was Casey- he was great and gave us good board game recommendations at the end too. We did the Moonshine room and it was REALLY fun. They had a really high production value and all the puzzles were very fun.

I’ve been to two other Escape rooms in NYC and countless in other cities. Clue Lou was our clue master and his energy was contagious. The team had a great time and got out with 1 second left! Not sure what options they have as this was a work outing that was a surprise for those that attended.

Good times all around.

I booked out the speak-easy escape (pandemonium) room for my team and we had A LOT of fun. A few sceptics were blown away by the escape room concept and Escape Entertainment helped seal that.

The pandemonium rooms are a little too "lock" based, but good puzzles and we did get out in about 54 minutes which we're told was well below the average.

To quote someone in my team "I was working on one of the puzzles to open a drawer and never in my life have I wanted anything more and when the lock opened it was amazing"

Alien Invasion is really cool, high tech and probably leads a trend in using electronics to solve/escape the room. BUT, our group went a week after it opened and we encountered a couple frustrating problems. First they gave us cell phones that were programed to help us solve the puzzles. If you're not savvy with these devices forget it you won't even be able to participate. Even so, the members of our group who live for things like this needed time in the beginning to familiarize themselves with all the various functions - especially ones that people don't use on a daily basis. In addition there were so many apps that even the tech geek in our group missed a couple. I doesn't help that it is so dark in the room. While that added to the space-like atmosphere and enhanced the whole experience, it did slow us up. Much of our 60 minutes was spent just figuring out what the cell phone was capable of doing.
I wish they had sat us down before the clock started ticking to give us an overview of the phone. All that said, I think Alien Invasion is destined to be a huge success when they work out a couple kinks. It is clever, well designed and transporting. Cautionary note:
Just after I booked an ad popped up offering a 20% discount - obviously too late for me and I felt a bit ripped off. Anyone booking should definitely use the coupon code. I think it is INVASION but double check I'm not positive.

Escape Entertainment is among the best ways you can spend 60 minutes while in NYC. Conveniently located, reasonably priced, well thought out & executed. I will definitely go back.

I booked a room and paid for private session (paid for all 10 people). 3 teenage boys enjoyed and were into it. unfortunately we didn't figure it out in time, we needed at least 5-10 more minutes ugh. They had fun anyway and will do again. Going private party a lot better. Some individuals/strangers are not gracious enough to let others participate.

Perhaps I've been spoilt when it comes to my previous escape room experiences because I've come to expect exciting gadgets, intricate and interactive puzzles and engaging plots lines. We found none of this at Escape Entertainments 'PROHIBITION PANDEMONIUM' room. They set this room in a fascinating point in US history and could have tried a lot harder. Instead you will find over 20 combination locks and one or two interactive puzzles. That's way too many combination locks.
If you have a son or daughter who dreams of becoming a locksmith this is an ideal place to discourage them. If you're looking for a wonderfully complex and mechanically well engineered room you will likely be disappointed.

Dear James91Anderson, We are sorry you did not have the enjoyable experience many thousands of other customers have had and we greatly strive for--we want all of our customers to have a fantastic time visiting us. We accept that you prefer a different style game than what you played; however, for clarification, your representation of number of combination locks is significantly overstated and the number and diversity of puzzles and team challenges in the game have resulted in thousands of happy groups. In keeping with Prohibition Pandemonium's period (the 1920's), we chose to emphasize analog interactions (we are consistently told that people very much enjoy the simple tactile pleasure of opening a lock) in conjunction with a wide diversity of puzzles (tactile, interactive, logic, etc.) and a game architecture created by our professional game designers and sociologists that results in the opportunity for all participants to be fully engaged throughout the game. The feedback we receive for our Prohibition Room is consistently very positive (see other reviews) and it has been awarded as NYC's most immersive game. We appreciate you have strong preferences for automation and special gadgetry. Our technology-based game, Alien Attack, has this emphasis though our use of Augmented Reality, remote sensors and sophisticated control systems. The following is a review for this game we recently received on Google: "We've played almost 50 rooms now, and Alien Attack is a clear 5-star experience. Everything looked great, tech was appropriate and worked well, and room was puzzle-centric while providing a clear path." Our goal with our games is to try to appeal to the broadest possible audience (friends, families, work groups, etc.) and emphasize a fun social dynamic that results in a memorable experience among a group of people. In addition to our award winning games (each of which is designed to provide a unique experience), we place a premium on our upscale facility and highest caliber of customer service and we appreciate the all feedback of the more than 150,000 customers we have had the pleasure to host as we constantly strive to provide superior service. We appreciate your patronage and wish you the best, The Escape Entertainment Team

I played Prohibition Pandemonium. The design was very well done, I felt like I was really in a speakeasy. Unfortunately, I didn't have a good time solving the puzzles.

First off, our clue master literally showed us some of the hidden clues in the room before the game started, so I didn't feel like there was any sense of exploring the room. There were 3 puzzles I remember specifically where I would be saying to myself, "this should've paired up to this, but it didn't" and it was very confusing. It was very hard to do this with the 2 people I was with, which was unfortunate as well. I figured our clue master would help us throughout the room, but it felt like they were not watching us, or at least not listening to us. When we would ask for a clue (which you can do through a speaker in the room), our clue master would ask us what we'd done. This wasted a lot of time, where time shouldn't have been wasted, if the clue master was actually watching us.

If you'd like to go to an escape room with a 'movie set' like design, this is one you should check out. Other than that, I think there are some better rooms in the city.

Dear Leonard, Thank you very much for your review and kind commentary. We do everything we can to make sure our customers see the highest quality of service and experience and we are very disappointed the puzzles in Prohibition Pandemonium were not to your liking. All of our games, created by acclaimed game and puzzle designers, are meant to provide great variety, especially across our various games. Perhaps you would better enjoy Manhattan Mayhem, our most puzzle-centric game. Please contact us any time to discuss your experience. We will greatly appreciate any further feedback and would be grateful for the chance to speak with you. All the best, The Escape Entertainment Team
