Neighborhood: West Village
Stretching from Sixth Avenue to the Hudson River, the West Village is one of the city’s most coveted addresses. Full of trendy shops, historic taverns, and cozy restaurants set amid 19th century architecture, this neighborhood has a unique old-world feel. You won’t find a more picturesque location in Manhattan. Without the traditional city grid layout, it’s easy to get lost here, but that’s part of the fun as you stroll down elegant narrow streets with beautiful brownstones. When you need a break, you can always stop in at one of the many quaint eateries or cafes to soak in the atmosphere, or head to the western edge of the neighborhood to enjoy magnificent waterfront views while taking a leisurely walk in Hudson River Park.

If you drink tea or coffee at all, you have to stop in here. It's a tiny shop that offers so much, including rare teas that are almost impossible to find elsewhere. If you can't decide what you'd like, the owners and salespeople know the inventory so well that they'll give you great recommendations. I usually buy tea and some of my favorites are golden assam, mango black tea, ginger black tea, and earl grey. I try to make it down from Boston at least once a year to stop in and stock up.

I had to give up coffee many years ago because it was just too harsh on my system. This was a difficult decision because I've been hooked on that morning jolt ever since I was a pre-teen and finding a satisfactory alternative has been challenging.

Tea bags tea can be comforting, and I have had several that were quite satisfying. But, you have to go the loose tea route to get that full-bodied flavor and lift. And, that's where McNulty's comes in, providing you with a wide variety of choices of black, green, chai, spiced and you-name-it teas from all over!

The New York Times ran an article on McNulty's a few weeks ago (The Sweet Smell of Longevity at McNulty’s) and that convinced me to make a special trip to Greenwich Village to have a look for myself. I was pleasantly surprised.

Entering McNulty's is like taking a step back in time. Bags of coffee and tea line the shelves and counters from which product may be dispensed onto a scale before being wrapped and tagged for you to take home. The staff is very knowledgeable and helpful.

I wasn't sure exactly what I was looking for, but after a discussion with the proprietor, who showed me several tins which he urged my closer inspection to inhale the earthy aroma of the dried tea leaves, we decided on two to sample: Yunan Gold Tip and a Pu-Erh. My wife purchased a Chai variety.

I found the prices considerably cheaper than what I would pay at home in Syracuse, NY and the store's selection was remarkable.

The Gold Tip has a very balanced flavor, but the Pu-Erh is good for a morning wake-up.

My wife and I travel to NYC often and I expect we will make McNulty's a regular stop.

Don’t show up here expecting a coffee shop in the traditional sense. No, this is where you will buy an amazing amount of coffee options and an incredible selection of tea. The visit alone was worth the trip over but I also managed to get a hard to fine Puerto Rican coffee.

We have been buying our #coffee for #gaggia #espresso #chemex here for years; great selections for any flavor preferences and origins. ☕️. Love this neighborhood gem❣️. Also always take our friends from out-of-town; a good friend visited always ask for chocolate-covered hazelnuts and their hazelnut coffee❣️❣️

TIP: consider buying one of their mugs with the logo "since 1895" and it is practical too.

McNulty's is a shop specialising in tea & coffee beans. So you go to purchase products not to hang out :-) The shop has a huge variety of very good tea leaves and coffee beans. The staff is helpful and will attend to your queries as well. Really a great place to buy excellent coffee beans!

We've shopped here for many years, to fuel our obsession with good tea and coffee. McNulty's has a terrific selection. There are so many bags of coffee and tea crammed into the shop that there's hardly any room left for customers. Nothing fancy. Just great products and outstanding service. If you are a bit overwhelmed by all the varieties of tea and coffee available, the staff are always ready to offer advice, whether you are a newbie or an old customer. Or talk to another customer. It's that kind of place. Don't forget the chocolate almonds. They are irresistible.

Absolutely love this place. Whether you're a TEA or Coffee lover, you can't go wrong. Looking for a "new" taste experience or just stocking up for yourself, McNulty's never disappoints. An excellent specialty store when looking for that hard to please person. Not sure exactly what you're in the mood for, never fear, McNulty's will have something to tempt your taste buds. The only disappointment might be that you won't be able to sit and enjoy a cup of your favorite. It's still worth the trip. Definitely a must visit when in the West Village.

You can't buy a cup of coffee to drink here, however just walking into the aroma is enough to put a pep in your step. NYC should erect an historic marker on this store. The coffee bins are antique beauties. The guys working there are helpful, kind and charming!
