The York Theatre literally works out of a church basement with a tiny budget. But with endless creative energy and passion they keep on making memorable and exciting theatre. They bring back musicals from th golden age and let you hear them fresh as today.

The shows are well done and the actors are very talented! I have seen a number of really well done shows and even made a donation to help support the the group.

Desperate Measures was witty and well done. We purchased tickets same day and were not disappointed. It was laugh out loud funny, tongue and cheek humour. The stage and props are minimal and the cast does a great job playing off them. Definitely a lovely evening out with friends.

I have been to this theater several times and have introduced several family members and friends to this theater. Recently I contacted their Sales/Customer Service Department about an issue. The person in charge of the ticket sales/customer service (Bobby) was rude, inaccurate in his response and was not at all willing to try to work the issue out with me. As a matter of fact, he responded quite rude in the email he sent me. I will not be attending any more shows at this theater and can only hope that perhaps they will treat their customers kinder in the future. I have seen hundreds of shows on and off Broadway over the years and have never experienced this kind of rudeness. The York theater does not seem to care very much about customer satisfaction. I will no longer be able to recommend thjos theater to others after this experience.

If you love James Cagney, tap dancing and movie nostalgia, this is the show for you!
We saw the show in previews in late March.
Robert Creighton is spot on as James Cagney and the five other cast members are equally excellent and talented! The musicians were not overpowering. Nice costumes!
The story is easy to follow, no foul language and lots of tap dancing routines! There is more dancing in the 2nd act.
Quaint theater - in a renovated church from the 1860's - not too accessible for person with mobility issues - all seats were excellent - good audio and lighting.
Scene sets were plain but seeing all the Cagney movie posters was impressive! It was a nice experience hearing "Give My Regards To Broadway" knowing you were two blocks from B'way and one block from 42nd St.!
Five stars! Hopefully it will make it a bigger theater!

This delightful musical involves a father's love for his son, and what it takes to bring his son back from the clutches of the devil. Entertaining, featuring a talented cast with superb singing voices, good acting, quirky, but ultimately a sweet story. If you think that the only great musicals are those on Broadway with huge casts, think again.

We went to NYC for a last minute weekend and wanted to see a musical. The Times Square Tix staff mentioned how much they laughed at the musical Desperate Measures. Needing some lighthearted comedy we acted on the suggestion and enjoyed a fun, well produced show with some great talent. We saw the afternoon performance Saturday 11/11/17 with half of the understudies and we were truly impressed with their talent.

Desperate Measures is a TERRIFIC MUSICAL, clearly one of the best we've ever seen (tops quite a few Broadway shows): outstanding singers and actors, great songs, witty lyrics, very entertaining, amazing play: We'll definitely watch again with friends!! The York Theatre Company is truly outstanding bringing soooo many excellent shows to New York. Add to that a mixture of Bohemian and family-like ambiente and you end up with spectacular shows, great entertainment and simply a feel-good night out long to be remembered!!

Found the East Side in Midtown, the York offers high quality musical theatre performances of lesser known pieces. If, however, you are larger than the average bear, don't expect to sit comfortably.

The spectacularly talented Andrea Frierson interweaves her personal story with songs for which Ella Fitzgerald was famous. An engaging script in hand performance, Me and Ella runs only through July 23rd. If you're looking for something special to do in NYC, this is it. The theater is small, you'll have good visibility anywhere you sit.
