About The History Couple: New York Local Tours
Jonathan and Alex are THE HISTORY COUPLE, and they have been giving tours in New York City since 2014, sharing the stories they love and bringing history to life. Their love story began in NYC in 2012 when they met as actors and fell in love playing opposite one another in William Shakespeare’s comedy “As You Like It.” Inseparable since then, they have continued to inspire one another to pursue their mutual passion for education and history. They developed THE HISTORY COUPLE and its series of tours out of their passion to make the history of NYC come alive in engaging and entertaining ways. Alex and Jonathan have backgrounds in theater and education, which makes every tour with THE HISTORY COUPLE a thought-provoking, engaging, and fun experience. They love to hear your questions and ideas, which make every tour unique. THE HISTORY COUPLE keeps all tour groups small so that each visitor feels comfortable, at ease, and invited to participate.

This tour was great! Jonathan is very knowledgeable, engaging, enthusiastic, and wicked smart. He gave a fascinating account of the history of Brooklyn Bridge and the people involved with it... very interesting! He also was very respectful of the tour members, very thoughtful and inclusive. I'm going to sign up for other tours with him.

I took a private tour with Jonathan one balmy, rainy August night. I am researching a historical fiction novel set in the Gilded Age and I was lucky enough to have the perfect person to help me bring to life Coney Island in all its gritty dark, fun loving light and every shade in-between . The History Couple have detailed and expert knowledge of Coney Island and the experience is entertaining all round.Jonathan went above and beyond and I thoroughly recommend this tour and these people to anyone interested in this part of the world.

My husband and I recently went on the Coney Island tour after loving the Crime in the Lower East Side tour! I couldn't recommend The History Couple and their tours enough. Alex and Jonathan are really knowledgeable and passionate about the history of New York. Even if you have lived in New York for many years, you will learn so many fun and interesting new facts that will make you fall in love with the Big Apple again and make you sound super cool when recounting them to your friends! :)

We loved the New Amsterdam: Birthplace of New York tour we took last June. We ended up being the only two people on the tour. Jonathan was knew everything there was to know about NY. We spend a lot of time with us. We is very personable. Can't wait to take the Coney Island tour.

Being Dutch myself, and having a partner who has lived in New York for two years, its Dutch history is not very well represented in the city, so we were curious to do this tour with Jonathan. It became one of our highlights of our weekend trip! Jonathan knew a lot about the history, working for the NY Historical Society, and was a very entertaining and enthusiastic storyteller, which made the tour very enjoyable. So no dry facts, but an interesting and entertaining history tour. The two hours flew by as he was showing various spots on the southern tip that were important for the Dutch settlement of New Amsterdam. We highly recommend this trip, next time we are back we would love to take his Lower East Side crime tour!
