Booked this rooftop bar before we left UK and reservation was quick and simple. No deposit needed or any restrictions etc. Was sent a reminder about booking an hour before and all went smoothly. Upon arrival, the guy who checked us in asked for $50 per person just to sit outside where I had specified on original booking. Refused to pay as there was no mention of this beforehand. He allowed us to our seats and said he would check and come back to us. Well he never did throughout the night so he was obviously ‘trying it on’ because they hear another accent and presume we will fall for the trick. Reservation for Tuesday 28 May @10pm - check work rota to see who this guy was and he needs to be reprimanded Shame on you, unfortunately we didn’t take his name but apart from that we had a great evening and it overlooked some spectacular views.

We just left a rousing performance of Oh, Mary! at the Lyceum Theater and we were ready for a nightcap. As we walked along 45th St, we saw the sign for Bar 54 and a QR code that said it was reservations only. On a whim, I scanned the code to see if there was anything available - sadly there was nothing same day - but as we turned to leave the Hyatt Bellman asked if we were wanting to go to the roof bar. He said we could go right up, no reservations were necessary at that time. We rode the elevator to the 54th floor where we were met by a surly maître d' who sniffed at us when we said that we did not have a reservation, and who reluctantly seated us on a low couch next to the waitstation on the terrace. There were many open tables along the balcony railing so when the server came by we asked her if we could be seated there. She pleasantly moved us to a table with the million dollar view. We had a few drinks and a truly wonderful charcuterie board. The server was kind, welcoming, helpful and seemed truly glad to be there. She even took a few pictures for us. I will note, that it was a Thursday evening around 10;00 p.m., after theater, in the summer. The bar was well populated with an adult tourist crowd. People seemed genuinely glad to be there, gawking at the skyline views and the lights of Times Square below. People were laughing, taking selfies and enjoying themselves - as were we. It was very nice. This makes the snooty maître d' seem all the more out of place. This is not an IT club with A-List clientele. It is a lovely rooftop bar, that makes a fun and exciting splurge for a handful of tourists who are grateful to be there and who can afford the price. He should be nicer. He should take a note from the servers and the bartenders who also all seemed to be glad to be there on a nice summer evening.

We went to Bar 54 after seeing a Broadway show. By the time we got there, the kitchen was closed, so we could not order food; however, the server, sensing that we were hungry, arrange for us to get a charcuterie board, which hit the spot perfectly with our cocktails, which were also excellent. The views of Time Square are spectacular.

We were staying at the hotel and booked reservations ahead of time for a spot on the rooftop area. It was everything we hoped for. A lovely view of Times Square area with the bustling street below, great cocktails, tasty nibbles and pleasant wait staff. It is probably the most expensive cocktails we’ve had at $25 each but the view is great. The weather was perfect too for our evening out.

My husband and I were staying a couple of doors down and decided to pop in for a drink one evening while visiting NYC. The bar is just beautiful and the views are amazing. You can walk out onto a deck for a closer view of the city. The drink I had was the absolute best drink of my visit to NYC. Top shelf liquor and all fresh ingredients. Lovely ambiance as well..

An absolutely amazing experience from beginning to end. The location itself is spectacular with an amazing view of Manhattan, a great ambiance, and a friendly vibe. But where it truly shines is the staff. The bartenders are all very knowledgeable and talented, mine was able to make me a perfect drink just from asking my taste preference and mood. The other staff was polite and helpful, sparking up conversation throughout the night. Bar 54 is a must-do in my eyes, and I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting NYC. I’m looking forward to visiting again!

Food menu is mostly snack/appetizer food. Extensive drink menu, but the real selling point is the georgeous view. If you are looking for a light snack/drink for a short time after a show, this is a good place to go.
