There is so much history and so much culture on the Lower East Side and Leslie makes the streets come alive with stories of the past in between stops at shops, synagogues, landmarks and museums. She is funny, vibrant, charming, knowledgeable and engaging. She points out history in architecture and signage and even a hidden bar and eatery. She is... More

2+ hour walking tour of NYC's Lower East Side, with a particularly Jewish slant. Great experience, particularly as an overview of the Jewish immigrant experience. Leslie was thoroughly knowledgeable and an absolute delight as our tour guide. Hit the hot spots -- Eldridge Street Synagogue, Greek Synagogue (with insightful presentation by Marsha), and, of course, to food stops for which... More

I have been to the lower east side of NYC many times, but this time it was a whole new experience. Our guide was Leslie and she took us to places that I had never been to before. She is so knowledgeable about the history of the area and told many stories of the people who lived there past and... More

Yesterday's tour was fantastic! Enjoyed learning and visiting a neighborhood so close to home in New York City! The tour leader, Leslie, made it interesting, informative and fun! The big beer hall in the Hipster section was especially enjoyable as were some of the local unusual shops she took us to! The ferry ride there and back was also a... More

Our tour guide, Leslie, is an expert on the history of the Lower East Side, having lived in NY for many years. She gave insights that would not be found online, which is what made this tour so worthwhile. She was very accommodating and spent as much time as we wished at each location on the tour.

We spent a wonderful afternoon on the Fact, Fiction and Fun walking tour on the Lower East Side. Leslie was so knowledgeable and was a great tour guide. It was so entertaining and informative. A great way to spend an afternoon, regardless of whether you're a native New Yorker, transplant or tourist. Thanks, Leslie!

Leslie was incredibly informative on the Jewish history of the LES. It was amazing to hear stories about each place on the tour and how Jews from all around the world connected in New York. A great walking tour to learn about Jewish heritage beginning in America.

Leslie Schatzer is a warm, wonderful tour guide, often her delivery reminded me of Joan Rivers, who knows the Lower East Side of today and yesterday very well. She took us to a very touching historic site, A Greek synagogue with a rich history. It was enjoyable being with someone who was so knowledge about these streets, Orchard, Hester, Eldridge,... More

Staying in Chinatown

Neighborhood Profile
Bursting with an amazing array of sights, sounds, and smells on every block, a visit to Chinatown feels like entering a different world. It’s a colorful spectacle that gets even more crowded on weekends, when families stream in to enjoy huge dim sum feasts and to stock up at the markets on Mott Street. To take a break from the buzz, grab something sweet from one of the many bakeries in the area and head to Columbus Park, where many Chinatown residents exercise, play games, and chat the day away.
