This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.

Tickets are so hard to get. I got on the website the day they released tickets, about 10 minutes early logged in and requested tickets the second they became available.
I got the email with "the show is at capacity."
So i decided to go standby. They would start giving out standby cards at 11:00, got there at 8:50 and there were about 9 people in front. They told us to return at 3:00pm.
By 3pm, about 45 people had been given standby tickets. Then they called the first 10, yay, I got in!
Some seats were yet to be filled so approximately about 18 standbys got in.
Gordon Ramsey and Dominic Fike (he performed!!) were guests.
Cool experience if you're in NYC. And hey, it's free.

I thought I would provide an update about what this experience is like in 2021. We showed up for standby at 9:15am after reading online that they start passing out cards at 10am. Their website is wrong because they actually started passing out cards at 9am, but apparently everyone else had the same incorrect information we did because we only ended up being 6th & 7th in line despite being 15 minutes late. We had to show our vaccination card & ID. We came back at 3:30 and after about an hour a producer told us they could possibly take 15 people (there were about 50 in line). They then took the first 3 back immediately and told the remaining 12 of us to take a break for 30 minutes and then come back. Upon coming back we went through security, waited around for about 10 minutes backstage when a producer finally came and said she could take 7 of us. We were rushed into the studio where we arrived with only minutes to spare before the show started. The main guest, Emilia Clarke, appeared virtually and we could see her on a large TV screen. The other guests & musical performance were live in-studio. The show was very entertaining, Jimmy interacted with the audience several times and even came up the stairs and had us ask him questions. I will definitely be going back the next time I’m in NYC!

I’m writing this because when I was looking for some help online most of the reviews were from years ago.

I tried the online tickets but I missed the day and when I went to see if they were already available they were all sold out. So I heard about the stand by tickets and I decided to plan one of our days in nyc according to it.

It’s important for you to know that we went in February and it’s our first time in New York so I don’t know how it goes on other months.

We arrived at 4:30am to the line and there was only one boy waiting (mostly because he couldn’t get in the day before so he arrived at 2am to guarantee his spot). So we were numbers 2 and 3. 2 girls arrived at 5:30am, 1 boy at 6 and everyone else arrived between 7 and 8 am.
By 9 we were only about 25 people in line, two girls came outside and gave us the stand buy tickets - you should know that at this time they can’t give you any certainties that you are going to get in, they just give you the tickets so you go home and come back at 3:30 pm to check in, at this time there were about 70 people in line, it was a lucky day because they let 43 people in. The day before only 22 got in.
I read a lot of reviews saying some days only 10 people get in, some days five, so, again, this can be related to the time of the year.

Of course we left with the idea that we could’ve sleep a little more and only be there at 7 am or so but because we read many reviews of people saying that most days only 10-15 people get in so we made sure we would get in.
So, my advice is: if you have only a few days in nyc like us you should do it that way too, if you have more time you can try your luck for how many days you want until you get in (like most people on that line). Also you can see the guests on the tonight show website and pick a day according to it.

Good luck!

The taping is scheduled fora 5pm start and we were told to arrive not a minute later than 3:30 or else our tickets would be given away. So we arrived at 3:10pm to be safe. Next thing I knew, within 20 minutes of entering and being asked to show our ID's, vax cards and tickets for what seemed like 25 times, we were sitting in the waiting area which ended up lasting longer than the ENTIRE taping. Around 4:30pm, after an hour of sitting, they finally started having us line up which then lasted an *additional* half an hour. Standing. Waiting. What's the hold up I wondered. Several times they explained how they were doing additional "sound checks". Didn't they have the last couple of hours to do that? The show finally started around *5:20pm*

Next up was the thing that upset me the most. On their website it clearly stated that once seated in the studio you could remove your mask which I was very happy about, however during an announcement they said masks "must remain on the ENTIRE time" in the studio. Mind you this is a 100% fully vaccinated crowd. I told the woman how on the website it says otherwise but she said bc of the Delta variant rules changed and everyone in the studio must have one on. Ok #1 thanks for updating your website, and 2, I guess it's ok for Jimmy Fallon, his guests, the Roots and the cringeworthy opening comic who even came up into the audience to not be masked in the studio though. Got it. Typical do as I say not as I do. What else is new when it comes to pandemic protocols. Yet football stadiums of 60-70k packed in are selling out every Sunday with no mask mandates. Makes sense.

Finally, the musical guest never appeared on the show. Jimmy introduced them and then said goodnight and we were told to applaud. Most of the show seemed very "staged" for us with segments clearly shot out of order, reshoots of Jimmy doing introductions, forcing us to continue to applaud each time, etc. I like Jimmy a lot and yes these are free tickets and yes I know most of this is all about the NBC airing later that night, but it seems the crew needs to really put things together a bit better and make the experience more pleasing for the audience, especially after the process we went through before finally getting into our seats. But generally speaking from my experience unless you get lucky and there is a special guest you really truly want to see, this is an overrated hassle that I would not recommend.

We were told we would be the audience for a “special musical performance” and that everyone would be on TV — an outright lie. The musical guest was the Killers, who performed 2 songs. FOR THE ENTIRE HOUR. We couldn’t even see them from where we were, because we had been positioned on a lower terrace near “the top of the rock” and were basically there as sound filler. There was a small monitor at the front of the crowd that only the first 30 people could see, and Jimmy Fallon did not even acknowledge the 100+ people on our part of the terrace. Watch the show from home. Your time is worth more!

I signed up for tickets on 1iota but was not successful so I decided to try my luck with the standby line. I arrived around 8:25, but wish I’d arrived earlier. They hand out numbered tickets at 9:00. Be sure to have your ID with you! I returned at 3:30 as instructed on the standby ticket. You line up in the NBC store according to the numbers on your ticket. That day only 28 people from the standby line were let in. As I was closer to the back of that line, we weren’t sure until the last minute whether we’d get in or not so it’s a lot of standing/waiting, but in the end we made it into the show and it was an awesome experience. The guests were great and it was neat to see how they run everything. While the band was setting up, Jimmy comes into the audience to take questions. Overall it was a great experience. If you want to better your chances in the standby line, arrive early! Also, keep in mind that they are serious when they tell you not to bring backpacks/large bags so be sure to leave those behind if you don’t want to be disappointed.

I got my ticket the day they were available online. I was solo so maybe that helped. It is very fun to see how the process works and how Jimmy, The Roots and Higgins do the show. But be prepared - it's an entire afternoon and evening. You get in line at 3 (I suggest 2:30) and walk out after 6:15. I highly recommend trying to get tickets if you are a fan of Jimmy.

The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon was amazing. I will say that to make sure you get your tickets in advance. If not, you will be put in the waiting side of the room and the chances of you getting in are hard. Once you get there, you will wait until they start accepting people and their tickets. Once you go through security, you will be assigned a side of the waiting room. The VIPs (I would assume guest of people who work on the show) go to the right and all others go to the left. Those on the waiting list go to the left back of the room. The seating process is done by their formula and you'll be assigned as they see fit. The show itself was fun, we did not have a good guest (well known), but overall it was pretty fun!

We went to get standby tickets on Monday, May 23rd. We got in line at 7am and they gave us cards at 10am and were 4th and 5th in line. Even made friends while we waited. They ended up taking 15 people. We sat at the back but had a good view of the stage! 10/10 experience!

For those people who are frustrated that your Waitlist tickets don't convert to real tickets, skip that headache and go for standby tickets. I did all the steps you are supposed to do to get Jimmy tickets online, but even those wait list tickets didn't convert. I have no clue how they choose who goes in, but if you really want to get on the show, just do it the old fashioned way. My husband and I decided to go standby instead and we got in first try. You just have to get up early one day (and take a nap after you get your numbers). It's worth it. We got to the standby line at 5:50am and we were #17 and #18. The people who arrived at the silly hour of 1:30am got spots #1 and #2. The top five people got in line by 4:00. The top ten were in line by 5:00. The top 20 were in line by 6:00. The total standby people who got into show were in line by 7:00. On our show they let in 35 people. Obviously this is no guarantee, but if you don't get it one day, try for the next day. The people who were behind us in line did this very thing and got in on the second try. Both days they let in at least 35 people.
Another bit of advice: Try and go midweek days and on a day where the guest may not be as popular.
If you are handicap or are in a wheelchair, this is the show for you! Even though you sit in the back, the seats are great AND Jimmy goes out of his way to shake your hand at the end of the show. He is the epitome of a gentleman.
Last bit of advice: Do not let people save spots or cut in line at the last minute. Not only is it rude, it may cost you an opportunity to see the show. This happened to the people that were behind us in line the day before. If you see this happen, go inside the NBC studio and grab one of the security guards and let them handle it for you.
