Peace in Pieces...
Dec 2019
Imagine yourself walking through the city that never sleeps: the hum of traffic, the hustle of the pedestrians.
It's like a perpetual motion machine.
But then there's St. Malachy's--a place of worship that works. You walk through what look like doors, but they're really portals to another place entirely. The silence lifts the weight of the world off your shoulders like a coat heavy with drenching rain.
Even if you're not Catholic, you're invited into introspection that the city right outside the door does not allow.
Walk the Stations of the Cross and contemplate your own journey through life.
Explore and examine the religious iconography and you'll feel compelled to contemplate your place in the world outside the door.
And when you leave--the visit to St. Malachy's is always too short--you will have experienced what keeps people coming back for more.

It's Now Open... Solace During This Harmful, Outrageous Time

Was able to pray inside St. Malachy' s Church this afternoon in the midst of the covid-19 shutdown and the political/civic unrest gripping New York City and much of America... soothing and reassuring. Thank you, St. Malachy's. May God Bless us all.

Prayerful Peaceful for All

This church is a great alternative to St. Patrick’s Cathedral. It’s beautiful interior is very welcoming and the pastor gives a very meaningful homily. Though a Catholic church, everyone is invited and would benefit.

Great music in a lovely quiet spiritual environment. Their 11am Sunday mass makes one feel thankful for what they have. It is a small beautiful island in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the city

Beautiful service and the music and singing, both choir and congregation is heavenly. The 11:15 Mass on Sunday is a must.

Xmas Eve in a wonderful community with a great choir

So pleased we were not able to get tickets for St Patricks cathedral. Our experience at St Malachy's was so much more personal and welcoming. The choir were terrific and the priest so lovely and kind and welcoming.

Want some quiet? Go inside.

We always go here during our stay in NYC. It's a quiet space in the hustle and bustle of the Times Square energy, especially during the Christmas season. We stopped in and prayed for awhile before attending our matinee. Thank you for the lovely decorations and quiet space!

Beautiful BUT beware fake beggars

We stayed in the a hotel opposite this beautiful chapel so I decided to go in. So quiet and cool inside, you could not believe you were in the heart of New York. After lighting a candle i started to leave and was immediately approached by a young man. He was dressed well and spoke softly telling me he had fallen on hard times and needed some cash to get back to Baltimore. I didn’t stop I just walked to curbside to try and cross the road to my hotel. He persisted with his requests but once he realised he was not going to get money from me he became very abusive , his tone changed as did his language. Fortunately I was able to cross the road and enter the hotel lobby. I felt very intimidated and has made me realise that in future I will insist on my husband waiting outside for me. Ladies take care as even a church is not safe.

We found St. Malachy’s whilst exploring the area where we were staying.

It’s a beautifully kept Chapel and well worth a look in.
