Hans Christian Andersen was a Danish author. There is a statue remembering him in Central Park, it's not far from the Alice In Wonderland statue.

Andersen was responsible for such stories as Thumbelina, the Princess and the Pea and the Little Mermaid. He was also the author of the Ugly Duckling which is commemorated as part of the statue.

There are benches surrounding his statue and there is also space on his bench welcoming you to join him.

This statue will resonate with children and adults alike as we remember the stories he created, some of which have been reimagined by Disney and other studios

When I visited there was a sign saying there is storytime close to the statue on Saturdays. It's good that his stories live on....

Located on the east side of the park at The Conservatory Water, the beloved Hans Cristian Anderson Statue can be found. Known for his fairy tales, he is depicted reading from one of his most famous, The Ugly Ducking. Since 1957, a storytelling program for children takes place at the statue on Saturday mornings during the summer from June 1 to September 21 at 11am.

Close to the Alice in Wonderland statue and a fitting memorial linked to the 9/11 atrocities. It's a nice place to sit by the lake and relax.

The Hans Christian Andersen statue is located on the east side of Central Park. It's interesting, larger then life but not worth a special visit unless you have children, or possibly your own interest in the life and story of Hans Christian Andersen.

Walked by it and thought it was pretty, but really nothing special. The ugly duckling story is depicted there, and that's pretty much it.

Visited Central Park over Thanksgiving Weekend 2019, and a stop off for a photo op at the Hans Christian Anderson statue was a must given how much of a bookworm I am. Wonderful large bronze statue of the author alongside his ugly duckling, and how touching to see it is dedicated to the children who lost their parents at 9/11.

We always enjoy seeing the Hans Christian Anderson bronze statue at the Conservatory Water in Central Park. It was particularly nice seeing it this past week (first week of May) while the spring blooms were starting to appear in the Park. This provided a nice backdrop for taking pictures of the statue at this time of the year.

The statue is bronze figure of an elderly H.C. Anderson, the Danish author noted for his children's stories and fairytales. Here you see an elderly Anderson, seated on a park bench with an open book. The page is filled with the story of the Ugly Duckling. On the ground is a small bronze of a duck looking up at Anderson. It is a neat sculpture in Central Park

Note: Like the nearby Alice in Wonderland Statue, just a couple minutes walk from here, it is fine for children to touch, climb on and around the Hans Christian Anderson statue. There are always fewer visitors here than at the Alice in Wonderland statue so it is much easier to take unobstructed photos here.

I love Hans Christian Andersen's children stories and I love Central Park in NYC. I think that it is wonderful that children (and adults) can find this beautiful bronze statue and while enjoying this great area of the park - learn a bit about an excellent Danish author.

We found this on one of our morning walks as we were staying in an apartment not far on 73rd St. Enter Central Park from Fifth Avenue and 74th Street and wander around the pathways toward the Alice Statue (which is huge) and you'll find this one. I prefer it much more than Alice in Wonderland. The lovely little duck really does look like he is listening to the tale of the Ugly Duckling. Kids love climbing on it so get there early in the morning if you want a photo with just the statue. So beautiful around this area of the park in April.

We stumbled across this big bronze statue of the Danish author, poet and fairy-tale writer while wandering through Central Park one morning. He sits on a bench, book in hand, reading "The Ugly Duckling" to a duck that appears to be listening intently. The scene made me feel as if I could enter it and listen to the tale myself. Perhaps he would next read "The Emperor's Clothes" or "The Little Mermaid." The statue, created by Georg John Lober, was donated to the park in 1956 by the Danish American Women Association.

This is one of Central Park's climbing sculptures, erected in part, to appeal to children. When we visited, no children had arrived, but the statue's well-worn lap indicated a popular destination. I highly recommend a stop here for those traveling with children or any adult who wants to briefly "relive" a bit of childhood.

The statue can be found at 74th Street near Fifth Avenue west of Conservatory Water.
