We had a wonderful tour in Harlem lead by Neil, who is a born and bred guy from Harlem. He brought us to a variety of eateries, taught us about the history of the area, shared some personal stories and gave us an incredible behind the scenes look at the famous Apollo Theatre. Neil didn't just deliver the taste of... More

A very relaxed tour round some interesting spots , with tasty nibbles at every turn and informative tales that made the history real, by the man below, the loquacious inimitable Mr Shoemaker.

We enjoyed our tour a lot. The gospel tour and the service were very moving, I have not been that moved during a church service in a long time! The Apollo Theater was the highlight of our tour and meeting "Mr. Apollo" in the flesh and comedian Rob Stapleton. Andy our tour guide was good- for an 88 year old... More

The highlight of our trip to New York was definitely the Apollo Tour. Andy, the tour guide, was an attraction in himself: a witty 88-year old who could outpace all the younger tourists in a hot summer day has witnessed more than 50 years of history in the neighbourhood and delivered enthusiastic accounts of off-the-books tales. We felt so lucky... More

Never toured Harlem and we found the most amazing tour and tour guide (Andy). An older gentleman that has lived in Harlem for decades was our guide. Learned show much history and saw iconic places. Recommend it highly.

We participated in a Sunday morning tour which included spending the first 45 minutes of the tour waiting in line to go into a local church and spend half of their morning worship service in the balcony participating in the service. That was the best part of the tour and anyone can participate in the service if they stand in... More

My name is Neal Shoemaker and I'm the owner and founder of Harlem Heritage Tours, over the years we have received negative reviews and i always respond in a civil manner, but this review is an ABSOLUTE LIE. Firstly our groups very rarely wait on line at the church, and to say that there was a 45 minute wait is... More

My girlfriends and I were visiting NYC for the weekend. We had never been to Harlem and while we could've easily just walked up and down the streets, we wanted to really get a feel for what makes Harlem so special. We booked a walking tour with Harlem Heritage Tours. It was the best money I spent all weekend. The... More

My husband and I greatly enjoyed this general tour of Harlem with the highlight being a behind-the-scenes visit to the historic Apollo Theater. Our guide, Andy, was knowledgeable and had lived in NYC since 1958. At 88, he not only was sharp-witted, but we and others on this tour (including teenagers) had to trot to keep up with his fast-pace.... More
