Neighborhood: Harlem
As a hub of African American culture, Harlem has played a vital role in the history of New York City. Today, the neighborhood is as vibrant as ever as new businesses and developments go up next to local institutions. The heart of the neighborhood is bustling 125th Street, where street vendors and historic landmarks like the Apollo Theater mingle with big-name stores. Turn down almost any corner, and you’ll discover some of the most beautiful blocks in the city, filled with handsome brownstones, soul food restaurants, corner shops, and scenic parks. For a taste of a real New York neighborhood, it’s hard to top a visit to Harlem.

This was once known as the Lenox Casino but the building later became a mosque. The building was redesigned by Sabbath Brown in 1965 by adding traditional features of middle eastern architecture such as arches and an aluminium dome, once topped by a golden crescent and has become a jewelled part in the Harlem skyline and the mosque is easily recognised on a trip to Harlem.

The mosque was renamed in honour of Malcolm X as Malcolm Shabazz Mosque in 1972. It has no affiliation with the Nation of Islam.

Sunni Muslim Mosque. Just found out and read about the history of the mosque from Wikipedia and it's interesting to know all this.

There even a shooting incident back in 1972 which involve the shooting of NYPD officer. Really cool read. And because I bypass it by accident.
