Neighborhood: Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.

I have been buying books from Bauman for 6 years. The selection is huge and covers a multitude of topics. The staff is knowledgeable. The NY location looks like the interior of a New England college library. The prices are a little high but you get exactly what you pay for and they guarantee that any signed copies are legit. The quality and service is worth the few extra dollars.

Very helpful member of staff. If you are seeking a rare book give them a try, if you aren’t it’s still worth popping in to see a proper rare book shop.

My wanderings took me to Madison Avenue and Bauman Rare Books -- just five minutes, Bob, take a rest, says I.
Two hours later I am still engrossed -- a framed letter from Ben Franklin containing his "B. Free" mark for free postage (and a dig at the King) delighted me.
There were many more fascinating bits of history -- not just books, but many other items as well.
Fascinating for book lovers and all lovers of culture.

Although they were busy helping someone from the “one percent” examine a rare specimen for possible acquisition, the staff was warm and welcoming to us gawking tourists. They sent us home with a catalogue and told us if they didn’t have it, they could help us find it. 😎

I met with my brothers and my nephews to visit this bookstore
very cool experience
shelves of books, some behind glass
There was a First edition Call of the Wild annotated by Jack London for a mere $14000.00
I picked up(not bought) a small book dated from 1588 for $600
the staff was pleasant and answered questions

This bookstore is not your average bookstore. They have things that bring to mind Indiana Jones saying "it belongs in a museum!". If you have an interest in book collecting or simply want to see some very historic items, you should stop in. The staff is very friendly. Be warned you won't find anything here that's less than $500 however.

We stopped in "just to browse" and were first overwhelmed by the beauty of the books, then by the prices— several thousand dollars per volume! For serious collectors only, unless you are content to just admire their lovely collection.
