Top ways to experience nearby attractions

The area
Address
Neighborhood: Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighborhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighborhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.

Encountered this wonderful bookstore by accident. It is a most impressive establishment with books of all kinds, meticulously arranged. The staff is
very knowledgeable and helped me find something for which I'd searched
for many years. They have books ranging from inexpensive paperbacks to
rare first editions. It is a truly marvelous place that any bibliophile can enjoy.

Exactly what I imagine when someone says "NYC bookstore." Old, creaky wood floorboards. An elevator that barely seems big enough for one person, let alone five. A dedicated staff clearly interested in the preservation of knowledge and literature. I could spend an entire day here looking through books, prints and maps here. Got my best NYC souvenirs from this spot. Highly recommend.

This is a must go if you are in to books, maps, or prints. I go here every time I am in NYC and usually buy too many antique maps. I have almost ran out of room in my house. But you can see how the store is so unique especially to this part of the city.

This is a survivor of the golden age of used booksellers in NYC. You enter into a beautiful wood-panelled room lined also with built-in bookcases, but books are also strewn helter-skelter on shelves. There are also multiple bins and racks of engravings and book illustrations ready to be framed. Downstairs is the half-off section, which is fairly extensive. Though they advertise themselves as having six floors of books, only two are available to the public. If you are looking for something specific, speak to one of the booksellers and they will check their digital list to see if what you want is available on the staff-only floors. This is one of the last of its kind in what used to be a great book town, so if you like old books, appreciate it!

We came across this charming bookstore while strolling down Lexington on our way to Bloomingdales. It had a map in the window that showed old Manhattan that drew or eyes. The store is full of fabulous old books, many of them about New York and Manhattan. We spent a pleasant few minutes browsing. Really lovely store.

This old bookshop is interesting as... well, a bookshop, but their truly amazing floor contains maps. They are neatly organised around two large tables, and you are welcome to look at the collection, with the help and advise of the very kind staff. Be ready to find old maps from all over the world, but a specially interesting collection of materials in New York.
The staff was also very helpful, a month after our visit, solving an issue with customs, by sending additional documentation by email.

A unique find!

Many signed prints, photos, and books.

We mistakenly thought they would have a blend of newer books as well as older and out of print books.

Our visit offered a curious look into a collection of many old literary works and quite an interesting collection of autographs from Supreme Court Justice Felix Frankfurter to actor John Gielgud to singer Dinah Shore to the iconic Audrey Hepburn.

One of the many interesting nooks of New York!
