Neighborhood: Greenwich Village
Commonly known as “the Village” to New Yorkers, it was here in Greenwich Village that both 1960’s counter culture and the LGBT movement were born. Famous for its bohemian past, head to Washington Square Park to get a feel for this diverse and energetic neighborhood. You’ll find NYU students, street performers, skateboarders, kids frolicking in the fountain, and locals relaxing and playing chess. Stroll the streets to discover a mix of majestic town homes and hidden bars and restaurants that give this neighborhood an old-school residential feel. When the sun goes down, check out one of the famous jazz or comedy clubs that still packs them in every night.

- brokenpedro196 contributionsGreat night outVisited here whilst visiting from the UK and picking it out via Trip Advisor. What a great night out, we where seated right in front of the stage which did concern me but all was fine. Great line up of 3 comedians plus the host who was fantastic and funny. There is a $14 charge and a minimum order of 2 drinks per person but drinks are reasonably priced. If you fancy a good night out make sure you visit. It’s worth booking in advance though as this place is really popular, also we booked a table at the restaurant above called “ The Olive Tree Cafe”, food and service where excellent and you just walk downstairs to the club.Visited February 2020Traveled as a coupleWritten February 19, 2020
- MOBSligo, Ireland100 contributionsA must when in New YorkWe attended an early show in the Comedy Cellar on Saturday night. A highlight of our trip. Absolutely brilliant night. Very well organised, book tickets in advance. Phones are taken at front door & put into a sealed envelope to be left on table during show. Cost is $24 per person + 2 items minimum (3 maximum) from menu. These items can include drink / dessert / food. Money well spent, highly recommendVisited February 2020Traveled as a coupleWritten February 3, 2020
- AnneSan Diego, California27 contributionsOutstanding! We laughed so much it hurt. The show had a crazy selection of talent, but every one was worth the price of admission. We made reservations, in person, the night before so had no trouble getting right in. It's the best!Visited December 2019Written March 5, 2020

My wife and attended the Thursday 9:30 pm show. We booked ahead, which I recommend. They have the people moving process down to a science. You can stop into the adjacent bar for a drink while in the cue for the next show. We were asked if we wanted a front table, which we accepted. The show was a hoot. Being in the front row did allow the comedians to bounce some of their lines off us. If you want to be anonymous don't sit in the front. For us it made the experience more memorable. Some acts struck us funnier than others, but that's how comedy works, right?

The comedians were mostly great, especially the 2 women but my husband and I were sat in a corner and 2 people were sat next to us in a tiny booth. I didn’t mind being smashed into a small space but we had to contort ourselves to even be able to see the comedians and not well. When I brought up the concerns to an employee she acted like she didn’t understand me to the point that one of the people in the same table even tried to explain to her. I said clearly “we came to see the show and we can’t see the performers”. Her solution: well you can leave if you want… I get newyorkers have a rude reputation to uphold but this was beyond ridiculous and upsetting. We paid for this show just like everyone else and we had a right to see the comedians expressions just like everyone else… we came all the way from Florida and were excited about seeing this show and left with a bad taste in our mouths honestly.

Our party of three made reservations for the early Wednesday night show, pretty sure we would not have gotten in without them. Great drinks, the food looked good but we had just eaten so we did not order any. 3 of the 5 comedians were hilarious and I’m pretty sure we did not stop laughing for their entire set, 1 was meh, the other was interesting but did not quite hit the funny bone. The MC was also great. Be prepared to check your electronics. We will definitely be returning to this venue the next time we visit!

We attended the Monday night 7:30 show and it was great! Each act was great (some funnier than others) and very engaging with the crowd. The venue itself is a lot smaller than I had imagined but that's not a bad thing. We did show up earlier than 7:30 because we finished with our dinner reservations earlier than anticipated and went upstairs to the bar. The bartender was not the friendliest and was not interested in any small talk that we tried to make. That was the only downside. He acted like he really didn't want to be there.

I’ve been doing stand up comedy for 5+ years. This. By far. Was the. Worst experience of all time. Tried to go there with my mother and we were so excited!! (Apparently— “too excited”) We made reservations and got there 30 minutes early. I was definitely hyped up to see 2 of my favorite comics in the line up. This show started at 11:30PM so we were just walking back from dinner. The bouncer came up to my 68 year old mother and I and wrote “manager” on our phone bags that we had put on silence and seal closed. We were also with 2 of my business partners who were behind us in line. We continued to talk to multiple guests around us about how cool the comedians were and how we drove 3+ hours to see them. As we proceeded to the front of the line they pulled us aside and said I was “too intoxicated” to attend and they couldn’t put the comics “at risk”. (Note: that with my experience in comedy I would absolutely never heckle or disrespect another comedian). This was a Tuesday night and we each had one glass of wine. I couldn’t believe it until they confirmed they were being serious and told us “maybe you can come back tomorrow night”. I will never go back or recommend this establishment. This was one of the worst experiences I’ve had within the comedy industry. I was not only embarrassed by coworkers but my mother as well. After the line went through, I attempted to reason with them again and they completely wrote me off. Hope they will do better in the future. I will never attempt to attend a show run by them again.

The worst experience ever!!
We were a group of 5 and had made reservation with upfront payment of 150$ for a table. We arrived 3 minutes late and our table was given away!! People on the door were extremely rude and provided us separate seats for all of the group. The show was of poor quality and their jokes used only offensive language!!
Not worth anyone’s time to go there!!
Much better shows to attend in Manhattan!!

If it's too late to make a reservation, don't fret, just show up about 1 hour before the showtime, and the bouncers will show you where to line up (just around the corner) for standby tickets. At 50 minutes before the show, they will come by to take down your names and tell you to come back at showtime. This place is just a block from Washington Square, so you can go there to wait out the hour (if it's not too late or dark), or grab a quick bite or drink somewhere nearby (lots of pubs and restaurants around). Be sure to be back before the showtime, and line up at the same spot you did before. The bouncers will come to get the standbys by the list. We had about 10 people in the standby line and almost all of us got in. But they didn't take anyone who came after that. The room was packed but service was impeccable despite that. There was a lineup of about 6 comedians, some were funnier than others but all were pretty good. We enjoyed ourselves - it was an unforgettable New York experience. The MC was a comedian who creates apps to help the homeless in the daytime and comedy at night, and he was phenomenal! So worth the wait and experience! We had salad and nachos. Salad was better.

This was such an amazing night. We went during the week to a NEW JOKE night. It was hilarious and inexpensive. Id go every week if I lived in NYC. This night apparently is about people ( sometimes famous comedians) testing out their new joke material. the food was really good and not through the roof.

We attended two seatings here on a recent weekend in NYC, both shows were hilarious. One show was in the large showroom (in the cellar) and one was on the main floor by the bar (smaller and more intimate). Liked both venues!! Colin Quinn showed up at one of the shows which was a nice surprise. Lots of great talent on both nights. Highly recommend!!

I came here on a date and had an absolute blast. I saw Jackie fabulous and friends. Her show was hilarious! I can’t remember who was funnier as every host had their own jokes. I heard of this place from listening to the podcast, “Guys we fu*ked” and although, I wasn’t in town to catch the comedians off that show, I was glad to come to see a great show regardless. I laughed so much, my cheeks were hurting. Thank you for a good laugh and a great time! Would definitely recommend coming here for a great night out with friends, date, or just for the giggles.
Two items minimum as per usual for most comedy clubs. But you can order food if you’re not a drinker.

I doubt that your luggage would be allowed in. Cell phones are bagged to prevent recording shows. The place is very tight on space.
