We were surprised to find this richly decorated moorish style building among the usual anonymous W 55th streets buildings. It is newly restored and the terra cotta tiles look colorful. The stylish interior is also worth a visit.

Visited this beautiful theater for the first time and was impressed with its beauty and the friendly staff. Not far from Carnegie Hall, there are plenty of restaurants and parking garages in the area. Decent leg room in the orchestra area. Since this is not in the crowded Times Square theater district, there is a lot less foot traffic to... More

This venue, home stage for Manhattan Theater Club, is an Art Deco gem opened during Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia's term of office. It hosts plays, concerts and all types of entertainment. Large, grand 'Moorish' interior main theater and intimate, modern, high tech small box theater. You choose...

Wow what a place. We were in the balcony and OMG if you have vertigo be careful. An almost vertical drop down to the stage. Saying that the acoustics were good but if you want a better experience bite the bullet and spring for some better seats.

I've been to NYC Center twice now, and have very much enjoyed my experience both times, so I thought I'd write and let ya'll know! On my most recent visit (2.19.16) we went to the box office to pick up our tickets purchased in advance, and despite being on the wrong side to pick up our tickets (totally our error),... More

Over the years, we have seen a number of theatrical productions at City Center ranging from the Encores music theater shows, to Cate Blanchett in Genet's The Maids, to children's performances . It is also a major dance venue! Ironically, it is just around the corner from Carnegie Hall!! I strongly encourage consideration of The Encores series where leading theater... More

Attended the Patrice O'Neal Comedy Benefit. The ushers in the lobby were polite and helpful. However in the balcony section (row J on the right side), that usher ran the section like a prison warden... Phones/cameras were not allowed during the show, so if you took yours out for any reason, you had a flash light shined in your eyes.... More

I've been to City Center mostly to see Alvin Ailey performances annually. I simply adore the beautiful "Moorish-inspired" architecture. It's right on 55th street and can be accessed by various subways (N,Q,R) a few feet away from the entrance. It is also walking distance for any visitors' hotels around the Times Square theater district. There are three level seatings (orchestra,... More

My wife and another couple enjoyed a nice performance by the Alvin Ailey American Dancers at the New York City Center Theater in Manhattan, New York on 55th St. The performance was excellent and the theater was spacious with good seating views and sound!

We saw Alvin Ailey and they were incredible! The theater is beautiful and all seats seem to have good views of the stage. I recommend front, center mezzanine.

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
