Five star prices, one star service

Booked a series of treatments (massage, waxing, mani and pedi). Started off well - receptionist rearranged some timings at my request, massage ok, waxing ok - but then I was abandoned for 60 mins in waiting area-all phones banned so no concept of time. 11am pedi time came and went - in the end I retrieved my phone and it was 11.30 - receptionist gave me some random excuse about missing staff member but no one came to tell me, so I had to have a mediocre express pedi, was late for my next appointment. I returned to bliss for my mani afterwards, again, mediocre (they don’t cure the nails for long enough so not nearly as shiny as proper manis), went to pay. Receptionist still didn’t care, even when I said how awful the whole experience had been. And then asked how much gratuity I wanted to leave.
A great brand let down by employing too many staff too poorly paid to care.

Worst pedicure ever
Apr 2018 • Solo
Got a pedicure at Bliss 49 this week. The experience was unpleasant, Deanna was rude, clearly unhappy to work and did a terrible job. Got extra charges and my feet hurt after treatment. Find another place to get that service!

Mediocre
Dec 2017
I had dreamed of going to this place for years, and finally decided to treat myself on vacation. The spa is located on the 4th floor of the hotel, with a small registration desk surrounded by some Bliss products. I was ushered into the locker/lounge area and there were definitely pros and cons to this part....The locker area supplied the robes (I had been given slippers upon checkin), yet no defined changing area other than the open room (or one of the 3 bathroom stalls if you wanted privacy). The blue, basic robes offered no pockets and were labeled 'One size fits all'...which would have been fine for most, except in my case I am 4 months pregnant and had to constantly cover my lower half to keep from exposing others! It offered no extra room, such a shame for comfort..This area also offered a sauna, small restroom area and shower stalls. A plus was the offering of various toiletries to utilize.
The lounge area just had a couple couches and comfy chairs. Not super relaxing or luxurious. A plus there was the little snack bar, offering infused water, brownie bites, cheese and crackers and olives..I had a massage and facial...The masseuse was very nice and my massage was nothing special aside from a normal Swedish massage (perhaps this was due to it being prenatal type?)..The triple oxygen facial was relaxing, although lost major points for the upsell at the beginning (ONLY $65 for a collagen mask add-on!) and there was absolutely NO scalp/hair massage as per usual for facials. It was very clinical and for the $180 price tag, I was disappointed.
Would I go back to this spa? No. Was I glad I experienced it? Yes. Next time I'm checking out the Guerlain Spa at the Plaza.....

Worst Spa in NYC
Dec 2017
There a much nicer, cleaner and more relaxing spas in NYC. It is not a place to go to relax. In my last visit i was told the sunna and steam room were not working and i had to climb over mop buckets when i got out of the shower. The operations manager ilona murane is rude and does not value customers. I will not ever go back.

Bliss looked fluffy and not serious till I started the massage
Apr 2017 • Business
after a week of working around the clock- i had no choice but to treat myself to a peeling and massage. I must admit that I didn't want to go to bliss because from the outside it looked cheap with it's blue decor. After I walked into the waiting room I felt I might be lucky. Charlotte was so professional and just gave me the best massage that totally melted away any worry or stress.

Not what it used to be...
Feb 2017 • Solo
It is just not what it used to be. It used to be that you walked in and were immediately greeted by staff...now, not so much.

I also always found them to be very organized. Last time I went, I checked in two hours before my treatment to enjoy the amenities. Once it came time for my appointment, I found out that I was never checked in and my treatment had to start 30 minutes late and was cut short. When I complained about my experience to the manager, he offered me a free hand cream. Really?

Then, I found out that despite being a loyal customer over the course of a decade, I was in their system as a "new customer" and they had no history of any of my treatments. Again - really? To have to explain everything that is going on with my skin every time...

I truly believe that they too big for themselves. They have become too focused on brand extensions and retail distribution for their product, that they forgot to maintain the quality and prestige of their facility and customer service.

Very sad. Once you get a bad reputation, it's hard to change people's minds. Especially in this retail environment.

Honestly - as much as I will always love Bliss, I truly recommend you find another spa if you are looking for that true New York City spa experience.

I So Wanted to Relax Here...
Jun 2016 • Solo
I knew on my trip to NYC that I wanted to book a facial at Bliss because I had heard such good things. I was really looking forward to it, until my esthetician started "nickel-and-diming" me. Saying things like I think you could use the collagen mask and that'll be $20 more. And also you seem tired around your eyes, I can do an eye treatment for $50 more. I came here to relax and feel good about myself, but that isn't quite the experience I had. The facial itself was enjoyable though. I think I would go back to try another service. The spa is in a great location at the W, and everyone at the front desk was warm and friendly.

Not what it used to be
Jun 2016 • Solo
This used to be "the place to go", especially for waxing. Today, I brought my daughter in for a bikini wax and although the technician was nice and the service was fine, the facilities left much to be desired. It used to be you went upstairs to the main spa to have a procedure like a waxing done. However, they put us in a little room off to the side of the manicure stations on the street level. This was neither relaxing nor blissful.

I'm not sure we will be back again. Such a shame. It used to be a fabulous, blissful place to go.

Pure Bliss...
Dec 2015 • Solo
So... I was looking to destress and get a much needed massage, and I decided to indulge with a massage and sauna at Bliss. I wanted to find a place that felt just right. Read the reviews (some not so great) and am so glad I decided to give it a try. It was absolutely wonderful... from the steam sauna to the lounge to the massage experience. The spa is beautiful and the location (W Hotel) is just perfect. Make it a spa day with girlfriends and enjoy a drink (or hydrate) at the bar after your massage, mani-pedi or facial. I'm officially hooked.

My go to bliss
Jan 2016 • Friends
Bliss 49 spa location is my favorite. The ladies are great here, always very nice and they know their skincare! Highly recommend for facials. I love the smell of everything in the spa. I always get the collagen mask add on, it's amazing. They have the best little brownies in the women's waiting lounge!! I visit the city every other month and I always go to bliss!
