Been here a few times and I just love how it's never overly packed or overrun by tourists given its location. Organized a large-ish gathering recently and The Ginger Man was the perfect fit! They are also super helpful if anyone is looking to reserve space - they go on a per head minimum but it's very reasonable. We ended up just going without a reservation, but were able to secure some space in the back corner that worked out really well. We arrived around 8:30pm on Saturday and most tables were occupied but it was not crowded. More people trickled in as it got later but it never got to the point where you're shoulder to shoulder with anyone. Our server was also great in coming around making sure that everyone was OK and taking additional drink orders. I love their whiskey and beer selection and they really have something for everyone. Top of my list if I'm looking for a chill night with my friends.

Had a full itinery of NYC bars to visit during a short visit which included the Blind Tiger, Pony Bar , Heartlands & Beer Authority...... Then a South London Brewer of "Cronx Beer" recommended the Ginger Man. We paid a short visit on our first day and new we would be back. We visited all of the above bars but kept returning to the Ginger Man....... Every day !

At least 30 well kept beers on tap, numerous bottles and the fun of Beer flights accompanied by knowledgeable and friendly staff, especially the two British guys ( from Kent & Leeds) ensured that this would become our bar of choice.....so much so that we would return to the US just to spend time.

If you enjoy your IPA's , Porters , Sours ,Whites, Bourbon, Whiskey and even Larger then I can not recommend the Ginger Man highly enough

I got there during the lunch time on a Friday. Seating was ample and the bartender seemed very distracted talking to other patrons. After about five minutes he gave me some recommendations and I grab some flights. After about 30 minutes the bartender as well as a very nice waitress warmed up to me and I had an amazing time.

About 40 beers on tap divided out by styles. And their bottle selection was not in Normas however it was ample and satisfactory. The bartender new recommendations and made excellent choices for my flight.

The pretzel was OK. I did not go there for the food but the pretzel cool down quickly and did not taste fresh.

This is an iconic beer bar in New York City and you must visit it.

Had lunch here. Disorganised service. Incorrect order served and additional with salad costly and extortionate. Used to be good but somewhere we'll look to miss moving forward.

Stopped in here Sept 14 in the eve. Bartender took several minutes to acknowledge us because she was too busy talking to a friend. Bar was not busy at all. She took our order, made our drinks and promptly went back to chatting with her friend. Never once came back to check on us. Finally waved her down to get the check. We needed change so we handed her payment and waited for change - She rounded the bill up to the nearest dollar and gave us our change. Its not that I care about the coins but it is stealing in every sense of the word. I know many places that do not deal with dimes, nickels or pennies at the bar but never a bar that didnt deal with quarters. She didnt say she was low on change. And if a bar is going to have this policy, it should be rounded to the guests benefit. Wont go back and will not recommend. Its too bad because its such a beautiful bar.

I had exactly the same experience as one of latest reviews where bar staff on Saturday night couldn’t explain the prices on the bill and needed to call back room staff out who although explained the policy of charging nearly same price for half pint as a pint did not go back to bar staff to feedback. I found the bar staff extremely arrogant and totally non-customer friendly. Too many Ginger beers there too

A very tasteful beer with a great range of beers. Good atmosphere with nice vintage decor.

However, bar staff are dreadful. Ordered half pints and got charged twice for full points at $9 a pint. Did not receive a bill until we asked for one. We complained and the barman said it was not his job to deal with it! Outrageous when you are also tipping $2 for 2 half’s!

We called over a supervisor who refunded us ( after some time) $1.25 per drink. We questioned this and they said it was there pricing structure.

Felt cheated as this was not in the beer menu ( I have a copy to prove this) and nor did the staff tell us it was only $1.25 more for a full pint.

We had no apology from the bar staff and the supervisor did not even speak to them about their behaviour. He said they would not listen? Why employ people who do not listen and who overcharge?

This spoilt the end of an evening as it ended up feeling like we were in a clip joint. They did this on 2 rounds before we realised what was going on $18 for 2 halfs if beer is completely unacceptable.

The bar staff should be taken to task.

A shame because the pub has a great range of beer, a good atmosphere and has a nice vibe.

Came across the Ginger Man on a cold rainy evening, the place looked inviting so we shot in out of the wet. Sat at the table the waitress gave us a menu which had black printing on brown background, the lighting was poor and we couldn't read the menu.
Walked under the light to read it, ordered our choices and wished we had kept walking. By far the worst meal of our trip, processed meat served without a smile should sum it up. Not impressed.

If you like to receive a warm welcome in a pub avoid this place. What a melting pot of misery. To be fair, the barman and some of the other clients were really nice but the waiters / waitresses were the most miserable bunch I've ever encountered. Nice beer though

We found this bar because of TripAdvisor and it was only one block from our hotel. Definitely worth a visit for a quiet night (we went on a Sunday evening) with a few different beers and the yummy cheese platter. The waitress was pleasant and attentive, but we also never felt pressured to order more or make a move when our glasses were getting on the empty side!
I enjoyed the house ginger ale, the only beer I didn't enjoy was a blueberry beer (it had dog in the name) it was so sweet smelling that it tasted like bubblegum and I left nearly the whole pint which was disappointing. Not the pub's fault though, just my taste buds!
