Been here a few times and I just love how it's never overly packed or overrun by tourists given its location. Organized a large-ish gathering recently and The Ginger Man was the perfect fit! They are also super helpful if anyone is looking to reserve space - they go on a per head minimum but it's very reasonable. We ended up just going without a reservation, but were able to secure some space in the back corner that worked out really well. We arrived around 8:30pm on Saturday and most tables were occupied but it was not crowded. More people trickled in as it got later but it never got to the point where you're shoulder to shoulder with anyone. Our server was also great in coming around making sure that everyone was OK and taking additional drink orders. I love their whiskey and beer selection and they really have something for everyone. Top of my list if I'm looking for a chill night with my friends.

In the middle of Manhattan where I expected everything to be the usual commercial beers and lagers it was great to find a bar with decent craft beers and decent atmosphere. Special thanks to the bartender Nick who made some absolutely fantastic suggestions (the “Golden Delicious” was superb) and his enthusiasm was amazing. This place was well worth a visit

Had lunch here - food (club sandwich) was ok but very heavy and way too much to eat. The service was very good.

Saturday evening in hopes to expel a hard week of frustration and abject pain I was indeed lured by the high praise of previous reviews. As a recluse I arrived without being greeted nor ushered to a seat amid usually seated at the bar. There are two bars. The primary large bar was full to capacity and appear all patrons were properly serviced. Ergo, I sat at the rear bar that is least serviced where the bus boys and kitchen staff were working. I waited patiently over forty minutes for a waiter. I was provided several menus by a bus boy who spoke very limited English. I believe with New York City's mandated minimum wage increase effective December 31, 2018 staff hours are significantly reduced or employment lay-offs have been implemented to meet with the demands of operating a hospitality and food service industry. Flagging a waiter for any additional food or drink orders is rather difficult as none were sighted as my initial order took an eternity to be placed. Ergo, the wait staff is very minimal and sporadic servicing customers. This bar is good for after work hang-outs or Saturday night with the boys in laughter and in good times for the avid beer aficionado. The craft beer menu is very extensive for IPA, American Pale Ale, blonde ale, dark lagers, stout, porters, brown ale, or amber where boys are boys. Restroom facility is relatively clean.

New York Style $8.50
Brooklyn Brine whiskey barrel sauerkraut and a side of spicy mustard. This was accompanied with either cold potato salad or chips. I decided on the cold potato salad which was frozen cold direct from the refrigerator, but not served room temperature. The hot dog was good and was a large juicy sausage. I wished I chosen the Parmesan garlic pretzel that is very coveted and highly praised.

Cider Creek Farmhouse $8
This is a smooth unfiltered French style cider fermented with a champagne yeast. This cider delivers an apple tart with a smooth, dry finish. I am not a fan of unfiltered alcohol and this 16 oz. drink was too much for my preference that I was unable to finish.

Whilst staying for 4 nights at a hotel on Park Avenue this bar proved to be the best of all the local bars/irish pubs we found in the area. Loads of draught beers, including craft beers and lagers available with good service from the waiter. A little expensive but spoilt for drinks choice and a nice atmosphere.

I had exactly the same experience as one of latest reviews where bar staff on Saturday night couldn’t explain the prices on the bill and needed to call back room staff out who although explained the policy of charging nearly same price for half pint as a pint did not go back to bar staff to feedback. I found the bar staff extremely arrogant and totally non-customer friendly. Too many Ginger beers there too

A very tasteful beer with a great range of beers. Good atmosphere with nice vintage decor.

However, bar staff are dreadful. Ordered half pints and got charged twice for full points at $9 a pint. Did not receive a bill until we asked for one. We complained and the barman said it was not his job to deal with it! Outrageous when you are also tipping $2 for 2 half’s!

We called over a supervisor who refunded us ( after some time) $1.25 per drink. We questioned this and they said it was there pricing structure.

Felt cheated as this was not in the beer menu ( I have a copy to prove this) and nor did the staff tell us it was only $1.25 more for a full pint.

We had no apology from the bar staff and the supervisor did not even speak to them about their behaviour. He said they would not listen? Why employ people who do not listen and who overcharge?

This spoilt the end of an evening as it ended up feeling like we were in a clip joint. They did this on 2 rounds before we realised what was going on $18 for 2 halfs if beer is completely unacceptable.

The bar staff should be taken to task.

A shame because the pub has a great range of beer, a good atmosphere and has a nice vibe.

The Ginger Man has one of the best real beer selections in NY. Many places claim to have a wide variety of beers but just provide various beers from the major producers, not the Ginger Man. Many great selections to try. Its big but not many tables. Food is what you'd expect. It's in NY so it aint cheap but most of the selections are worth the price. This is not a place to go unless you know beer. No Bud or Coors Here. Enjoy.

I first discovered craft beer at the Ginger Man and 1996. At that point in time, it was a cigar bar that serves amazing beer. The cigars are long gone but it’s niche as s craft beer haven continues to endure. The food is pretty spectacular, and one thing that’s been on the list for at least 20 years is the beer taster’s platter. A wonderful selection of charcuterie to go along with your favorite craft beer. I’ve since visited three or four other ginger man’s around the country, but this remains my favorite.

Dropped into the Ginger Man on a cold Sunday night in January. The bar was pretty empty with a few patrons sitting about so we parked ourselves at the bar. The exterior is muted, we had actually walked past and had to double back.

The beer selection was impressive with around 70+ taps pouring plus a couple of rarer treats located in the fridge.

Thankfully the barman Dylan was on hand to help us navigate through the beer selection. After a couple of cursory questions about what types of beer we did and didn't like he whipped up a couple of excellent tasting boards for us in short order.

The boards were varied in style and placed an emphasis on local which we really enjoyed. Dylan was very knowledgeable about the local beer scene and was genuinely passionate about the beer he served. A genuinely good guy and a serious asset to this bar.

Food selection was limited but delicious - that may have been down to the time that we visited however.
