It's worth a visit, at least for the kids, but it is not that exciting really. $ 3 each way for the short trip and yes, the view is fine and it is something to do..

I really enjoyed this short return trip, the tram was closed when I visited 5 years ago and this was the first thing I did on our recent visit. Roosevelt island not that great but the cable car there and back is a super cheap trip offering great views of the city and especially the United Nations building.

It's a very short 10-minute tram ride from the Manhattan side to Roosevelt Island, and vice versa. The ride is too short to get a good aerial view of New York. It is not for those who, like me, don't enjoy heights. But if you find it thrilling to fly, ski downhill, ride a roller coaster then try this tram... More

It was a rainy day, and friend of mine and I were walking through city. We have seen the Aerial tram totally by accident. The ride was great, cheap (we had a weakly pass for underground, and it is included in that pass) and most important the view was amazing. Also Roosevelt island is a must see place in NY,... More

Multiple rides on tram....especially with grade school, grandchildren. Lots of fun plus vicarious "revisit" every time we drive FDR and see the tram from below

The aerial tram is a novel way to cross to Roosevelt island. We made the trip and had a coffee before coming back using the subway, The island itself is not somewhere I'd go out of my way to visit, but the tram is relatively fun and close to Dylans Candy Store, so we had to go investigate!

Good fun and a different perspective on Manhattan. We just went over and back, with a quick walk around the island. In nice weather you could take a picnic and def spend longer there!

The arial tram offers a great view of the river and city. It's a fun little ride, but a bit short. Great for combining with something else.

I've wanted to take the tramway for many years, the thought was to explore Roosevelt Island and catch the views. My suggestion is to get near the front of the tram or non the bridge side to take photos when going to the island as there are some interesting opportunities to be creative. many people got off and got right... you can get the tram with a MetroCard ride - dont wait for any major thrills, its a regular and slow ride, but quite nice specially for you to see the streets from the top (the tram is actually quite close to the street) - once you land in Roosevelt Island theres very little to do - but there is... Staying in Upper East Side

Neighborhood Profile
Upper East Side
Combining quiet residential neighborhoods that have easy access to Central Park with world-famous cultural institutions, the Upper East Side is one of the most livable places in the city. Along beautiful Fifth Avenue, you’ll find Museum Mile, which houses many of the nation's most famous attractions in a single stretch, like The Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Guggenheim Museum. Walk a few blocks into the neighborhood, and you’ll come to Park Avenue, the poshest address in the city, lined with grand apartment buildings as far as the eye can see. Even if you can’t afford the luxury goods along Madison Avenue, it’s still a great spot to window shop an afternoon away.
