Very comfortable place with a very friendly attitude. Second recent visit, last show was great; excellent quintet, fronted by Joe Lovano and Chucho Valdes. The drinks can get expensive but we enjoyed some drinks anyway. Last visit was with my son and we hadn't eaten since breakfast. We arrived early because we wanted food but I don't like a plate... A great jazz club, but the food is less than great. The staff were very friendly and attentive. Work needs to be done in the kitchen !

Your choices are to sit at the bar (less expensive ticket and a free drink), or at a table (more expensive and a minimum). Spend the money on a table, because you'll have a far better view of the performers, and be more comfortable. If you look online you might be tempted to purchase your tickets ahead of time. Don't.... Had a wonderful evening at this jazz club. The music by Ann Hampton Calloway was fabulous. The food was ok. The Calamari was good, the Mussels and Blackened Catfish was ok. Give this place 5 stars for music and atmosphere and 3 stars for the food.

This is an area that has changed for the better. Used to be considered "Hell's Kitchen" and this jazz club is one of a kind. Went on a Monday around Christmas and had a great time. Since the Broadway shows are closed Mondays this is where all the talent was at their open mic night. Terrific music and the nominal... More

Had a great evening here listening to an amazing band! Great atmosphere, good food, friendly staff. If you love live music with a good bar and lovely food then book yourself in here! Would definitely visit Birdland again when I'm in town!

Visited Birdland for the first time tonight to see a jazz singer we are fond of. Had not been here before, but we were very impressed. No bad seats. Great sound. Highly recommended!

If you are looking for Broadway show tunes go here. If your looking for jazz, go elsewhere. Paid $82 for 2 drinks and admission on a Monday night and left after 10 minutes. Very disappointing.

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
