It is a beautiful, tasteful tribute to John Lennon who used to live in New York City and was sadly killed nearby. As well as the Imagine mosiac there is also the Garden of Peace. There is a plaque on a rock nearby to show the nations that have endorsed this. It is a beautiful place to contemplate life and that we need more love in our lives.Visited October 2023Traveled soloWritten October 22, 2023

The day prior marked his 40th passing anniversary. It was heartwarming to experience it with other fans and seeing some notes and letters placed. Truly a special memorial.Visited December 2023Traveled soloWritten December 22, 2023

Usually Crowded with Many Annoying TouristsMoving tribute to the great John Lennon who was taken from us by a gunman a short distance from this spot. Try to go early in the day when it is not overrun with hordes of tourists. I enjoyed the musicians nearby playing Beatles tunes but the mob at the memorial and the frenzy to get a selfie sitting on the memorial is really annoying.Visited May 2023Traveled soloWritten April 10, 2024

All Beatles lovers, peace-makers, and dreamers must visit this memorial in honor of John Lennon. Often there is a performer playing Lennon’s music nearby, or a table set up with artwork. The location in Central Park is great, and it is relatively easy to walk to depending on where you start from.

We heard of this memorial to John Lennon and stopped by to see what it was all about. We enjoyed Lennon's songs with and without the Beatles. Of course, we know the story of his tragic demise not so far away.
It's a decent enough dedication and if you've never seen it, it's worth walking by. Be aware that it is sort of a tourist trap and during our visit, there was one outdoor vendor pushing souvenirs. That sort of soured the scene.
Still, there's much to see in Central Park and this is only one attraction. There's so much more to appreciate.

On the west side of Central Park is Strawberry Fields. Who can’t be moved by this beautiful tribute to The Beatles and the gorgeous “Imagine” mosaic in loving memory of the late, great John Lennon. Across the street is the Dakota Building where he lived. Very thoughtfully undertaken as a dedication to him and his music. Wonderful.

Being a scouser from Liverpool i had to come to John Lennons “Imagine memorial”
It was poignant to pay my respects for “our John”.
Johns and the Beatles music was so far ahead of its time , the music and lyrics are timeless.
In Madrid ( June ‘19 ) Klopps redmen won the CL 6 times 🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆and in December 2019 we became the Club World Champions.

What a lovely tribute to a legend. We didn’t even realise this was in Central Park so it was a surprise find for us. It was lovely to see how many people paid their respects there, the mosaic is beautiful and people frequently respectfully add decor / flowers etc to it. Definitely walk by if you have time.

I found this part of the Park, really peaceful and reflective and it felt quite emotional.
Although it was fairly busy, there was a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere, made nicer with a good busker singing and playing guitar to Beatles song, making it more atmospheric.
Recommend - well worth a visit!

This was a nice memorial to John Lennon. It is located on the west side of central park and is directly across from The Dakota where he was shot. There was a guy singing tribute songs and others selling memorabilia. I went there with my teenage son and he thought it was nice. There are also benches to sit on.

This is a nice area in Central Park near Central Park West at West 72nd Street with the mosaic "Imagine" memorial for John Lennon. There's usually a musician playing John Lennon/Beatles music and there are several benches to sit and listen. Plenty of touristy Beatles mementos sold nearby.

As a son of Liverpool, i knew this was a must see in New York. I felt the warm Bohemien vibe walking through the local area. I entered the memoral. The utter shamelessness and selfish promotion for a selfie with v sign towards eyes is crass.People sitting on mosaic for a photo. You should be ashamed!!. I knelt at the side and placed a hand on the mosaic out of respect for the person and the nature of his representation. Secondly, we have a guy busking beatles and John Lennon songs with microphone attached to his ear. The singing had no relation to how the song sounded. Also guy was saying "Let's get this party started". Its not about not singing, it's about singing to reflect the environment and the artist. So if you have not got the gist already, i wasnt happy. So if you want to see selfish, overindulgent individuals this is a must see!!.

What season is the best to visit? I will be in Central Park with winter
Written August 23, 2017
I am not sure. We were there in August in the middle of summer and it was very hot. You would be able to do the walk around the teardrop shape garden path, but if it snows the "Imagine" mosaic on the path would be covered in snow. If no snow, I would say go. There's bound to be other visitors there as well as buskers.
