When Citibank decided to build here, the congregation negotiated rebuilding the church inside the skyscraper, and the result is very beautiful. It is well worth while when you are in the area to stop by, not only for a moment of peaceful contemplation, but also for the great art that is always on display. The church also has a strong... These seem to be the key words here. This Lutheran church with bold and innovative design is adjacent to the Citicorp building (separate review). In was built in 1977. Do get in and take a look, especially if you like modernism, it's open all day long. Check out their jazz schedule.

I walked down Lex Ave yesterday to check out some of the sites. This one didn't seem to exist. Indeed, there was nothing at all at 619 Lex: there's the Citi building at 601 which takes up the entire block and then the next place is 641 on the other side of the street intersection.

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
