We spent a few days in NYC at Christmas.
Wow, what a trip. I’ve been in the summer but this was fabulous.
It’s a different feeling to the UK, less commercialism and a bit more like a normal day.
Everyone was upbeat and friendly and Christmas Day was just like a normal day, very busy and enjoyable. We took in a show and had a great meal in the evening.
If you’re unsure whether to go or not, just do it

Probably not, because when you are in Manhattan there is SO much to do, even in the cold. All you can do is make the most of it. BUT don't over do it, remember to chill and rest. We took a couple of afternoon siestas which cut down the amount of things we had time to do, but we enjoyed the things we did do.Do your homework for the fun and unusual and remember there is always something to come back fo.

Christmas in New York is a Christmas boutique in Little Italy. They sell everything Christmas. It’s a happy spot to buy some Christmas memories.

This is in Little Italy and was a great little shop. Many different items and good selection. People were nice here and helpful. If you are looking for unique, this would be a good place to shop. Just go up the street and have a wonderful lunch too.

Hi all, a few tips from our experiences

We stayed pretty central in midtown, walking distance to most places however with so many people it’s takes time to get from A to B
Don’t book the Hop on / off buses as you waste a lot of time waiting to get on and with the traffic, the route takes forever, try to walk or use a taxi, there in abundance and pretty cheap for short journeys.

If going to One World & 9/11 museum, book your tickets straight from their website, you can select your entry time this way and you will miss the lines, if you use a third party you will need to line up to get an entry time, then line up again to get in at your time, a huge amount of people waiting so you will waste a day standing in line.

If going downtown to Brooklyn bridge or Battery Park, be careful with the guys offering tours to Statue of Liberty. BE SURE YOU CHECK TRIP ADVISOR FOR THE SELLER BEFORE BUYING TICKETS ON THE STREET OTHERWISE YOU WILL BE DISAPPOINTED.
Use a recognised ticket agent.

I’ll add more later

We were foolish enough to think that NYC would be like in the movies, along with a number of other people on our flight who were disappointed. There are pockets of the city that are festive with the usual Christmas stalls like Bryant park, maceys, the Rockefeller centre is beautiful along with Sak 5th Avenue and Central Park has some small areas which are festive but the rest of the city inc little Italy, China town, the village and financial district is not. We took a tour through Brooklyn and it was lovely to see the homes decorated.

This is a large Christmas shop, but the ornaments are mass produced plastic. There is nothing here you couldn't get anywhere else in NYC, but if you are already in little Italy stop by and see it.

Australians- the Christmas Tree ornaments are much nicer at home than in NYC. We did find one tiny stall at the Central Park Christmas market SouthWest Corner that has great unique decorations and NYC specific too!

If you are a Christmas fan then this place is for you. It is full of decorations. We liked the ones where you can personalise with friends or family names. The staff are generally helpful

Loved the assortment of ornaments. It was our first time to NYC. We wanted to relive the Home Alone movie.
Stopped in here and found what we were looking for plus more. They had the two turtle doves!

We were in NYC on 12/15...it was absolutely beautiful but extremely busy and congested! We saw lots of traditional sites: Rockefeller Christmas tree, the decorations in front of Radio City Music Hall, Top of the Rock, Times Square, and more! The light show at Saks 5th Avenue was beautiful!!!
