- Whichway2thebeach40Finksburg, Maryland193 contributionswill returnThis is a very nice venue with (I think) 5 stages. We were in #4 to see "The Play that Goes Wrong." Not a bad seat in the house. Stage lighting and sound excellent. Bathrooms, etc very clean. We did get a drink at the bar. Pricey like I'd expect at any of the bars in this area (equivalent).Visited January 2023Written February 7, 2023
- Melaney68Chesapeake Beach, Maryland9,599 contributionsEasy to Find and AccessWe had a large bus group that saw Dog Man and it was easy for the bus to drop us off and pick us up in front of the venue. There were multiple stages, a coat check, and snacks and drinks were available. The Dog Man play actors had incredible voices and kept the kids laughing and engaged.Visited March 2023Traveled with friendsWritten March 19, 2023

Thankfully the first row had ample legroom so that helped. The show itself (Without You) was fantastic and the intimate theatre space added to the experience.Visited March 2023Traveled soloWritten March 25, 2023
- GBosemanEast Orange, New Jersey102 contributionsGood show, only one drawbackWent recently to see Rock and Roll Man - the Alan Freed Story- the theater is easy to find and centrally located . The staff was vey friendly and helpful. -I had an aisle seat and although I am not very tall I was glad to be able to stretch . It seems that most seats in the small venue are good seats I was on the orchestra right the show was enjoyable with a talented and committed cast Drawback elevators and escalators not working and there are many steps which were a challenge for this seasoned citizen with a hip that doesn't always want to cooperate but I made itVisited June 2023Written July 1, 2023

The theaters are smaller and more intimate than normal which was not a problem at all. Seating space was tight though-our knees were right against the seats in front-unexpected for someone who is only 5’8. Staff were gelpful and attentive. Bathrooms were convenient but had too few stalls for patrons.

Went to see Jersey Boys (GREAT SHOW!) with my best friend and our boyfriends. I am a plus size woman (size 20 pants for anyone who is wondering) and I BARELY fit in the seats. I was grateful that I was between my boyfriend and my best friend because it was awfully tight (not to mention embarrassing). We sat in the front row of the mezzanine and I also had to sit sideways because my legs were too long. I am only 5'5" and my knee was bruised the next day from hitting the front row. My boyfriend who is average size and height was also terribly uncomfortable. There were many people in this section that had similar complaints. I would also like to mention that I have seen multiple Broadway shows and have never had this issue. The venue itself is very intimate and very clean, all staff are super helpful. Just wanted to put out a friendly review advising others that you may also have issues.

We got to see Jersey Boys before they leave NYC. It was everything we expected and more. It was easy getting seated, the seats were quite comfortable, and view of the stage was great. The only criticism would be to use the HVAC system to control the climate. With a packed audience and abnormally warm temperatures outside, it got a little stuffy inside the theater.

The physical address plays host to Jersey Boys, the Gazillion Bubble Show and Rock of Ages. Can only
speak to the latter. Scored amazing tickets about 6 rows from the stage- orchestra Amazing. The show- definitely something I'd see again. The venue for Rock of Ages is small in the scheme of Broadway, but the acoustics, the intimacy and the decor was fabulous. Having actors pop up next to your chair, unexpected surprise. The cast and crew do an amazing job and are incredibly talented. My first experience at this venue (I did see Jersey Boys years ago- was this the same venue?)
Coat check, bar, seat service, clean restrooms and convenient location in the heart of the theatre district.

Saw rock of ages. It was truly amazing. During the show, they needed to evacuate the theater. The employees were super helpful and apologetic. They got everyone outside quickly and safely. Allowed me to use the elevator as I was struggling a bit coming back in after all those stairs and standing outside (disabled and depend on a cane). Clean facility. Will be back!

We were excited to see iluminate following memories of their performance on a previous season of America's Got Talent. We were somewhat disappointed.
The technology is awesome. There's no doubt that iluminate is a pioneer in wireless lighted costume technology. The cool factor is a 10+. Sadly, though, the music, story and dancing fall far below that mark.
Artist of Light has a strange plot that finds itself in a dance club and on a spaceship all within ten minutes of one another. It's as though the writer wanted to find a storytelling vehicle to show off the cool technology, as opposed to writing a great story and then using the technology to enhance it. The former approach works well for theme parks or college productions, but is a bit of an embarrassment for an off-Broadway stage show.
Similarly, the music sounds like it created in a teenager's basement somewhere. Remember those 80's keyboards with the various buttons that automatically create neat rhythms combined with musical chords? Well, my guess is that someone dusted off their Yamaha for this show's soundtrack.
iluminate is way outclassed by the likes of off-Broadway shows like Stomp and Blue Man Group. Now, if BMG hired iluminate to enhance its show with the costume technology, THAT would be something to see.
Don't get me wrong, the kids will enjoy this 55 minute production. Whether the adults will like it depends on the sophistication of theatrical taste. If Cats was your favorite show of all time, then this might be worth the price. If Sondheim is more your bag, then stay far away.

Really enjoyed this off-broadway theatre. We had seen one Broadway show and wanted to catch one more and this was recommended by a local. Glad we listened. Drinks at your seats is just an added bonus.

We purchased discount tickets (69.00 each) and had pretty high expectations. New world stages is a fantastic facility. The novelty of Illuminate wore off in about 7 minutes, and then just became a dull, disjointed, boring show. It was repetitive and frankly, just not entertaining. I do not know what all of these other 5 star reviews are referring to. We left early. If you are a Broadway fan, I do not recommend this show whatsoever.

For mezzanine seating at New World Stage theater in New York....is 1st row in mezzanine ok for view? A lot of theaters have a rail and sometimes not the best row to sit in.

hi, I think it all depends on your sitting hight, I'm 95cm seated and I don't recall being an obstruction to my view.
How safe is this area to walk after a night performance?
DTraveler
New Jersey126 contributions
Very safe. The entire area is loaded with people (tourists) walking around and there is always activity due to shows and restaurants being open. Taxis are abundant so if you wanted to jump in a cab, you just have to hail one off the street (better yet get the Curb app and you can pre-order a cab to be ready for you right outside the theater).

Is this the same venue where, several years ago, you could line up a half hour before show time, pay $22 cash and attend a performance?

I am buying tickets to Avenue Q on Stage 3 and was wondering if anyone has sat in row a? I tend to avoid the first row at the movie theater because it feels like you're looking up.. is that how it is here?

I sat on row C and the view of the stage was wonderful. Did not feel like I was having to look up at all.

I am writing to you to see if it's possible to somehow acknowledge my daughter's Sweet 16 Birthday tomorrow at the 32:30 Matinee(May 6) We will be sitting in Row D(middle) Maybe a Happy Birthday from the cast/puppets or another way that you can do this. When we went they acknowledged several birthdays. When you arrive ask one of the greeters and I'm certain they will gladly assist you and make it happen. Have info written down already so you can pass it along quickly and keep it inconspicuous to surprise your daughter. Happy Sweet 16 to Emma!
