Excellent walking tour that majors on the "Italian Connection" on the Lower East side (Little Italy) Eric was very knowledgable as his family has lived in the area for generations and he is clearly passionate about the area and the people. As the area has changed so much his knowledge was vital to tell you what the area was like... More

i recently moved to this neighborhood and i wanted to know everything about it. Great to pass by buildings or places formally run by some italian family! This tour was very interesting, Eric Ferrara was a great guide and I was fascinated. I will go back again and I strongly recommend it to New Yorkers or tourists.

Eric Ferrara is 4th generation Italian and has researched the history of the Mafia in NYC. He gives a great tour of his family's old neighborhood with the stories of the development of relationships of the Mafia with local law enforcement, the federal government and business and industry. It was interesting to see some of the original buildings of Italian... More

We had a great experience with tour guide Michael. A well rounded and insightful tour that covered the history and culture of the area with a few opportunities to purchase food along the way from neighbourhood stalwarts. A good pace and knowledgeable guide made this a more than worthwhile way to experience the Lower East Side.

Michael was a very knowledgeable tour guide. Unfortunately is was a very wet and wintery morning for the walking tour and our expectations were low. One bite of the Yonah Schimmel Knish and listening to Michael talk about the history of the area while we ate and we knew we were in for a great morning. Michael did his best... More

Eric is a fantastic guide and as a historian will neither glorify or sensationalise so you get facts as best sources allow. But at the same time it is entertaining and not a total history geek fest. This tour will interest everybody and for something a little different during your visit to NYC I highly recommend.

This was a great tour. Led by fourth generation Italian-American, Eric Ferrara, we really gained an insight and understanding into the origins and evolution of the five major New York crime families and the history of New York City’s Little Italy. Eric founded the Lower East Side History Project and has consulted on several projects including programs for TV’s History... More

Staying in East Village

Neighborhood Profile
East Village
There’s still an independent vibe to the East Village, which offers plenty of unique small businesses catering to longtime New Yorkers and area college students alike. The East Village retains a bit of the old-time neighborhood feel that you can still experience today thanks to a mix of locally-owned shops, cozy restaurants, and lively bars. The scale of the residential blocks makes this a wonderful place to wander up and down the streets searching for the newest hip spot, or an old-school favorite. In the center of the neighborhood, Tompkins Square Park serves as a gathering point for the New Yorkers that call the East Village home. The people-watching here is hard to beat.
