Everybody loves The Strand, including me. Headed straight up to the knitting section and ended up chatting about knitting with a woman visiting NYC from Denmark. She walked away with the book I want for myself for a Christmas gift. Love the selection and prices!

We visitt the Strand every time we are in NY, several times a year. The prices are superb & the stock is constantly changing. A bookstore that is mindful of the used bookstores (and there are new books here, too) from the era before Amazon. Folks here are bookmen and bookwomen -- they know their craft and are always willing... More

Almost looks like there is no order here, just books and books and books everywhere, something for everyone - books I hadn't seen in years plus all the new releases, you can easily get lost here for hours. Also great stalls around the city like the pop-up at Central Park and Fifth.

For me, every visit to New York City includes the Strand. It is impossible to escape without an armload of books too heavy to pack. I know it makes no sense but this is one of the last great bookstores and I love it. Do I long for New York or do I long for a visit to the Strand?

For anyone with a more than passing interest in the written word, The Strand is paradise. A Manhattan fixture since 1927, it reputedly has eighteen miles of books within its bulging walls. You can spend $2 on sales items or $2000 on literary rarities (you can also buy magnets, mugs, t-shirts and postcards). The staff is obliging and knowledgeable –... More

The facade was covered by construction scaffolding but the inside was warm and inviting. We could have spent hours here. Before starting we made sure that they could ship any purchases and the ship worldwide. The variety and abundance of books was outstanding. Lots of Strand paraphernalia. Nice place to stop and browse for as long as you want.

As a book nerd, I was absolutely thrilled when my sister decided to take me to this place. Pretty much any book you can think of is available and the staff is simply lovely. The prices are average but the customer service is far superior than in any other bookshop. The Strand also have several small stands in different markets... More

I love the space, the size of the store, the variety of books. You can find books on every subject. You can find new books or old ones. You can spend hours browsing among the books, walking the aisles, checking the different floors. An excellent activity for a rainy day (or any day...).

Every single time I leave the island, I make sure to visit the Strand on my way through. Growing up, I watched every local book store I loved and would spend days in, disappear; aside from Barnes and Noble which is just too expensive to me. The first time I visited the Strand, I was amazed by the entire floor... More

I can't have a trip to NYC without stopping here, ideally at the end so I'm not carrying a 100kg of books all around the city. I've found so much here - English and French classics, history reference books and just the things which interest me. They have so many floors... I always head to the floor below the main... More
