The Strand is an iconic bookstore and one of the largest with multiple floors of books with sections on just about everything. Tote bags, shirts and other accessories are also for sale in addition to the miles of books. Book lovers' wallets beware.

Love the Strand and can't imagine a trip to New York without a visit to this bustling corner shop. Love carrying my Strand bags out of the store. Always find some new exploration area. It's packed-not just the books-but don't let the crowds be a problem. There's plenty of out of the way places to just settle in and be... More

This is an essential stop for anyone who loves books. Bring a tote bag. For about four decades, however, applicants for a job have confronted a final hurdle to enter its ranks: the literary matching quiz. You can find a copy of the quiz by searching the New York Times.

This is my daughters favourite book store in NY. We have been there at least 4 times and numerous books and tote bags and t shirts purchased. They not only have a superb range of books but they also have some great items to take home to remind you of NY

I can't imagine a visit to New York without a stop by Strand. Give yourself plenty of time to browse the stacks of both new and used books. The selection is amazing and the staff is very helpful when you are overwhelmed and can't quite find what you are looking for. This is The Bookstore of all bookstores! Don't pass... More

My kids wanted to go to the Barnes and Nobles a few blocks away. I said "heck no" -- why would we go to some chain we can go to in North Carolina when we can go to a great independent NYC bookstore. They loved it. Skip B&N (and Amazon) and go buy a book or two here.

Would be nice to have a few chairs around. Couldn't browse comfortably at all. That being said probably has most used books for the average person.

You can find books on just about any subject here! Staff are friendly and knowledeable. There is no aircon in the basement, just fans, so it can get pretty stuffy. A must for book lovers!

This place is awesome. Every trip I take to NY I end up spending a couple hours browsing in here. It spans four floors and has a section for just about anything you are interested in. Lots of stuff from local authors and things being promoted that you won't find at a chain bookstore. Also, you never know who you'll... More
