From its inception, Macy's Herald Square was a store unlike any other. Over the past 150 years, it has become a true New York City icon. Built in 1902, Macy's Herald Square was the first building to have the modern-day escalator, and it has continued to be a trendsetter. Today, "America's Largest Department Store" covers an entire city block with 11 levels of the latest fashions for you and your home. Macy's offers a full-service Visitor Center on the Mezzanine Level, plus restaurants throughout the store and exciting events almost every day.

Great shopping experience and everything really well priced and Macy's has everything under 1 roof. I think we pretty much brought the entire shop in clothes and staff very helpful

My mom and I went into Macy's on Sunday afternoon and it was full of tourist. Even though it was busy we got exceptional customer service in the shoe dept from a Mr. floyd. He really helped us and took the time bring out a few different styles and sizes. Would like to mention that washroom were a problem. I... More

Great chance to buy some nice clothing at a good price. I found the staff helpful only when you pursued them and sometimes they were hard to find. Remember as a foreigner they offer you a 10% discount.

It's a huge department store which sells all kinds of goods. The price range is from low end to above average, nothing posh about it. It is very outdated and not appealing. Don't understand why the name is so big.

Went to Macy's and was very disappointed. Its in need of a renovation and an upgrade. We spend about half an hour inside and then left again because we found it a waste of time.......

I really enjoyed the store. The boys found several things they wanted but it is in turmoil right now because of renovations. Lots of selection. Very crowded.

Not a store that appeals to me but was curious after reading the reviews. Hadn't been for probably 10 years and didn't know Debenhams. My initial reaction is that the refurbishment made it so much better than my previous visit but couldn't see anything I wanted to buy. In contrast, I visited the San Francisco store on the way through... More

The minute I walked in the door, I thought I was in Debenhams. The items for sale were similar and at a similar price. It was in the middle of refurbishment when we visited, so some areas were blocked off from the public. We used the escalator to visit every floor, but there was nowhere really that we wanted to... Macy's is currently in the process of a massive refit. Rightly so, it is incredibly dated inside and the layout is very confusing. I found it to be pretty over-hyped. The elevators were always packed and very slow to arrive, because of the building work there weren't any obvious signs on where the staircases were. Staff appeared to be snooty,... More

I've been to Macys before (the last time 12 years ago) and loved the experience of bagging good quality deals. This time is was a disappointment and reminded me of a visit to Debenhams in the UK. Things were overpriced poor quality brands and no bargains to be had. A real disappointment a had been looking forward to it with... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
