Most walking tours point and stare at New York-with Streetwise New York, you live it! Streetwise New York explores neighborhoods, recounts history and studies contrast--but does so knowing that New York’s essence isn’t listed in guidebooks or displayed in museums. The true New York is melted into slices of pizza, hidden in subways, and carried in the ever-changing stories of its 8.5 million people.

We visited USA in May, 2013 and stayed there for six months. The immediate visit was of course a New York. We already had bird's eye view when our aircraft starts descending to land on JFK Airport. It was really beautiful. A statue of liberty could be seen at a long distence. I just recalled similar view of our city... More

Prepare to have a great time with Dan. He is super friendly and laid back. He took us all over the city and showed us how to use the Metro. We took the tour from our hotel, Pod 51, through Chrlsea and the meat packing district. Excellent tour, excellent guide, will use them again when we get back to NYC!

I took part in a great tour that was given as a extra perk when I was staying at the POD hotel. Our tour was of the Highline garden, Chelsea Market, Meat Packing District, Greenwich Village ending up in Washington park. The tour was super helpful, especially seeing that these areas can be a bit tricky to navigate if you're... More

We went with Andrew. He had a great knowledge of the area and was very informative. Well worth going on the tour as you get to see a different side of New York that you wouldn't normally see. Thanks Andrew :)

2 hours with Andrew and a small bunch of 4 tourists. We've been walking around, tasting good food, entering some places we would never have found by ourselves. We learned a lot about immigration waves, architecture, social life, NY history and it's been really friendly. No rush, interesting answers to all our questions, ready to help, we felt like we... The walking tour we took with Dan this spring was fun, educational and a great way to ensure you will see some of NYC that you would otherwise miss. Dan listened to our interests and created a tour that really fit our wishes. His local knowledge and bits of information put context to the sights and neighborhoods. Schedule this at... More

Andrew did a great job of customizing a tour of Queens for our family. We didn't really know what to ask to see/experience, but after a few emails and well posed questions, he had a good sense for what type of tour we would like and some significant stops along the way. Our boys, ages 11 and 14, enjoyed the... More

I've taken walking tours in cities around the world and enjoy them. This one was special because the young man running it, Andrew, was doing his PhD in urban studies in NYC and so had an incredible depth of knowledge about the parts of the city that we explored. And he wore his learning lightly: there was much good humour... More

I went on a tour with Andrew on february and he was fantastic. While some tours tend to be boring or long with a lot of unnecesary information, Andrew was fun and precise which made the tour very enjoyable! If you go to New York I absolutely recommend him!

I took the Street Art/China Town tour with Streetwise, organized through POD 51. Our guide Andrew was well organised, funny & enthusiastic, which was unexpected given that it was mid-winter. He really lived up to their name, pointing out art pieces, and giving background on the work and the artists, as well as the general history of the area -... More

Staying in Chinatown

Neighborhood Profile
Chinatown
Bursting with an amazing array of sights, sounds, and smells on every block, a visit to Chinatown feels like entering a different world. It’s a colorful spectacle that gets even more crowded on weekends, when families stream in to enjoy huge dim sum feasts and to stock up at the markets on Mott Street. To take a break from the buzz, grab something sweet from one of the many bakeries in the area and head to Columbus Park, where many Chinatown residents exercise, play games, and chat the day away.
