Most walking tours point and stare at New York-with Streetwise New York, you live it. We explore neighborhoods, recount history and study contrasts-uncovering the true New York, that's melted into pizza slices, hidden in subways, and carried in the ever-changing stories of its 8 million people. From the swankiest stretches of Fifth Avenue to the grimiest of graffitied alleys, we share tales passed down from our grandparents, gleaned from books, and whispered on street corners. We went on a walking tour in Manhattan (about 2 hours). Most interesting . For about 2 hours we saw places that we had already seen but had no idea of their history, architecture etc . We learned a lot and it gave depth to our visit to Manhattan. There are different tours - we went on a Sunday tour... More

Great tour plus very knowledgeable tour guide. Tour guides also had strong personal background in the things they were showing, like Patrick who had an architecture and preservation backgound

Dan took us out did a fantastic job. Not only did he show us the sights but also took the time to go through New York's rich history and its' ever changing population. Thanks to the tour we visited great places which I would have otherwise missed like the Economy Candy Store (NY's oldest sweet shop) and the hidden gems... More

After a short lesson on how to navigate the subway, we arrived in the Lower East Side. Sonja was a fabulous tour guide knowing so much of the local history both old and new. From the tenements, boarding houses to the markets and street graffiti, Sonya was a fabulous guide. I can't wait to do similar tours.

Had Dan as a tour guide for Brooklyn. Was very good at keeping the group together on the subway and ensuring everyone could hear when he was explaining things. Also told us great local insights (beyond the guide book). Would definitely take another tour with this company.

After a 15,5 hour flight from South Africa we booked into the Pod 51 Hotel at 8H45. We were told about the Streetwise Walking Tour starting at 9H30. We quickly showered, unpacked and threw ourselves into the NY City experience. What a great way to beat the jet-lag. Sonya from Streetwise Tours skillfully explained to us street- art and showed... We went on two guided tours with Streetwise New York. First to Brooklyn and DUMBO and then to Little Italy, Chinatown and Soho. It was just excellent, we learned a lot of things we never read in official guides, had astonishing views of the city and a look on NY's smallest museum. We highly recommend, it's just a must! A guided tour by foot is just a great way of getting to see parts og the city you ease never would have seen! Not long walks at all but tons of input! We went to DOMBO and Brooklyn Heights, where I had never been before. Our guide had so much to tell about the places and could answer all... More

Staying in Greenwich Village

Neighborhood Profile
Greenwich Village
Commonly known as “the Village” to New Yorkers, it was here in Greenwich Village that both 1960’s counter culture and the LGBT movement were born. Famous for its bohemian past, head to Washington Square Park to get a feel for this diverse and energetic neighborhood. You’ll find NYU students, street performers, skateboarders, kids frolicking in the fountain, and locals relaxing and playing chess. Stroll the streets to discover a mix of majestic town homes and hidden bars and restaurants that give this neighborhood an old-school residential feel. When the sun goes down, check out one of the famous jazz or comedy clubs that still packs them in every night.
