If you are looking for some outstanding entertainment for free or a small price, it is well-worth checking out the schedule of events. The students at Juilliard are selected for their talent and it is obvious. It is possible to see musical concerts, plays, dance performances etc. It is where students are able to have the experience of performing for an audience. You can experience a master class where professors are teaching. There are sometimes competitions, faculty performances or concerts, and other events. You can check out the event schedule at this website: https://events.juilliard.edu/#/?i=1. Tickets can go quickly but they allow you to wait at the school outside the event venue in case there are extra seats (there usually are) on the day of the event. It is safest to note the release date for tickets for something you are really interested in though.

If you are in NYC during the "school year" you have to check out free student recitals during the week and every Saturday by the Juilliard Pre-College division. These are some of the finest young musicians in the world and to come to New York and not attend a recital and "take in" the amazing energy of this place is a mistake. I would recommend calling in advance to see if and who is playing. Chamber music, solo recitals for piano, violin and virtually all the orchestral instruments are just amazing. If you are lucky enough to be there on a day or evening when one of the student orchestras are performing you could be in for a real treat. These are some of the most talented, hardest working kids in this country in any field of endeavor. For a classical music lover this is a must, for a non-classical music lover perhaps even more of a must because you will be blown away by the talent of these kids!

We checked the Juilliard website and saw many free performing arts events listed each week, jazz, classical, etc. We were in NYC for a few days and went to the school for the first time and listened to a wonderful free piano recital for about one and half hours by one of the students, Zhenni Li, a piano student from China in an intimate recital hall. If you are on a budget this is a great way to attend cultural events in NYC.

Went to several performances this trip. Some are free and others very affordable for world-class performances. Young players are of the best and not at all jaded or tired. You will not hear anything much better.

Juillard is the place to go for low cost, high quality performance in dance, and music performance! If that's not enough, we spent so long in the bookstore they had to ask us to leave!

Anything at Juilliard is worth seeing these up and coming student choreographers/dancers were diverse, inventive and spectacular! Beaming with youthful passion and pride that was contagious!
Also most performances at The Juilliard School are free although you have to get there early and wait in line which becomes a bit of uncomfortable herding with no assigned seats. It's well worth it!

The 2nd floor Juilliard/ASB cafeteria in the new Rose Building, (right next to the building housing all of the Juilliard recital halls) is a good place to bring a visiting student group. Just check in with the guard on the second floor by the elevators, and you can eat with students from Juilliard and the American School of Ballet. They have a grill, sandwiches/salads bar, lots of drinks, and a make-it-yourself ice cream/frozen yogurt area.
Student recitals are almost always free, and some halls have full pipe organs in addition to pianos - a great experience when visiting Lincoln Center.

This is one of the top music schools in the country. It's worth taking a tour and attending a free student concert. Two parking garages on the street. Centrally located in Lincoln Center.

Every Wednesday at 1:00pm, Juilliard students perform at Alice Tully Hall. These concerts are open to the public and are free of charge. The standards are incredibly high - higher than many professional performances in other parts of the country. We attended an orchestral performance of a Richard Strauss work paired with Beethoven's Seventh Symphony. It highlighted two young conducting students and was outstanding!

Participation in Julliard evening courses on various music topics is a wonderful experience. The numerous music students, instrument and voice practice wafting through the corridors is enjoyable and an inspiration. The lectures provide excellent music insight for the non musician.
