Top ways to experience Rockefeller Plaza Manhattan New York City and nearby attractions

The area
Address
Neighborhood: Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.

So terribly overcrowded this holiday season. I was stuck in a huge uncontrolled crowd after watching the sacks light show. As soon as it ended, everyone pushed up against me and pinned me to the fence. They only had a very small opening in the fence leading to the cross walk, so the crowd was not moving at all. Myself and a few other women in line, ended up getting felt up by some guy with his hands and he rubbed up his front on us trying to “get by”. A man in the crowd yelled at them and they got away from us and moved to a different side. The whole time, there was a whole fleet of cops watching this crowd unable to move and they did nothing. If the widened the fence a small bit it seriously would have made all the difference. I’m sure little kids got hurt this year getting pushed up on, as it was absolutely ridiculous. It took us over 15 minutes to walk out of the small area. It was extremely unsafe and uncontrolled!

The most wonderful place in the city at the most wonderful time of the year is Rockefeller Centre. The decorated gardens, skaters and THE tree make this a special place to enjoy the holiday season.

This year with Covid, things are a little different. Indoor dining in NYC is banned. Crowds are avoided. The tree has times tickets but you can still walk or drive by Rockefeller Plaza and see THE Tree. It’s still Christmas time in the city.

Very pretty with the Christmas lights and ice rink but very busy so feels a little intimidating but definitely worth it.

Vibrant area surrounding Rockefeller Center. The most magical time to visit is during the winter months when the Christmas Tree is on display and the skating rink is open.

Yes it is crowded but it makes you feel Christmas. The tree, angels, ice rink, light show and stores all around. We went to the plaza during the day and night time and it is a must. We did not ice skate. Seen a proposal. Could of spent time just watching all the people. I would go back over and over

One of the greatest points of NYC to have the perfect view of New York Skyline! Not needed to wait long, worth the time and money.

This plaza is a lovely place that is peaceful and pretty. It would be ideal to sit here with a Starbucks or a sandwich. The fountain is also a great spot to have photos in front of.

Missed the annual turning on of the lights of the tree by a couple of days, but still a vibrant area, with the iceskating rink and great shops nearby and a near RadioCity. This area is NY for me

Rockefeller Plaza has so many different aspects and angles to it. Covers multiple blocks and of course the scented piece is the ice rink.
