I’ve taken 4 tours with Broadway Up Close, the most recent being the “Hippies, Discos, & Dogs, Oh My!” tour back in August. I’ve loved these tours since the first one I took back in 2014! They are perfect for any Broadway lover. All of the tour guides I’ve had the privilege of touring with have been amazing! This most recent tour was actually my first with Green Team Owner Tim as the guide. There was definitely something special about taking a tour with the person who created the tours. Tim’s love for Broadway and its history is abundantly clear and you want to hear everything he has to say. He also makes it personal and gets to know the people taking the tour. There were 7 of us on this most recent tour I took and he spent time talking to everyone. And it’s not just Tim, all of the tour guides bring the same passion and excitement to the tours. On top of that, the tours are a lot of fun! The “Hippies, Discos, & Dogs, Oh My!” tour is the third of their Times Square tours and once you’ve taken all three you get to enter the Legacy Hall of Fame and sign one of their green t-shirts, something I got to experience after this tour having already taken the other 2 Times Square tours. It was such a great experience, and added level of fun and excitement! I highly recommend taking any of the Broadway Up Close tours (or all of them)! I’m looking forward to going back and taking the other 2 tours and completing all 6! Whether or not you take a tour I also recommend visiting the Broadway Up Close booth in Times Square. It’s an excellent place to buy souvenirs for any theatre lover!

I have always been obsessed with Hamilton: An American Musical, and HamilTour was a great way to enhance my love for the musical. Our guide, Amanda, told very interesting stories about American history, and insider stories about the making of the musical and other experiences with the original Broadway cast. I also loved the HamilTour ID they gave us. I went there in December and it was cold, so layers of clothing kept me comfortable during the tour. The walking tour was about 2 hours, and it was really interesting and worth your time. I wished guides had souvenir items with them so we could purchase some after the tour.

This was my second Broadway Up Close tour after discovering them on a visit to NYC a couple of years ago. Amanda was an amazing tour guide, sharing lots of fun facts & insights about the history of the theatres and giving my friend & I some tips on shows to see during our trip. All of their guides are involved in theatre so they're very well-versed in the content & love sharing their passion. Will definitely check out more of their tours on my next visit!

We just did our 4th tour with BUC and can't wait to do our next one. The stories are great and the presentation is top notch. The thought and character that Tim the owner has instilled within his ever growing business is present from your first contact with them. All and any questions can be asked and answered with intelligent and entertaining stories, some being first hand accounts from the actors and actresses that work in these theaters. Absolutely a must do for any fan of all things Broadway!

I have visited New York a few times before and done all of the main touristy things so this trip I was wanting to do some more special, niche things. I work in theatre myself and have taken a few tours of theatres in England which I've absolutely loved, so I googled if there were any tours of Broadway Theatres and this one came up. Having been on some excellent tours before, I had some high expectations about what makes a good tour and a good tour guide, and let me tell you, Tim EXCEEDED every single one. Wow, talk about a person with a passion for theatre and for his work. I would spend the ticket price just to sit with him over a coffee and ask about his experiences and interests because he is an absolute well of knowledge. We were in a small group of about 10 people which was absolutely perfect to suit the intimacy of the tour. I could hear Tim perfectly throughout the experience and even though he talks fast (with passion!) I understood and took in everything he said because he is such a storyteller.
We saw and learnt about the past of Times Square, the facade of the Hudson, the Foyer/Lobby, the House itself then a little about some of the hidden areas. The tour lasted approximately 2 hours which was longer than I was expecting so a pleasant surprise. We had plenty of chance to ask questions and these were always welcomed and answered in depth, the tour never felt rushed or hurried even though I'm sure with all our questions the clock was ticking! I learnt so much on this tour and loved seeing and hearing about the storied history of the Hudson theatre. I would recommend this tour to anyone remotely interested in theatre, or even those a fan of history, or architecture, there was so much to learn from a fantastic, engaging, kind tour guide.
Thank you Tim for the wonderful tour and on my next trip to NYC I can't wait to see what else you have to offer.

First time for us taking a Broadway Up Close Tour but will certainly not be our last. This was a fun filled and informationally fact filled two hours!
We were extremely lucky to have Tim as our guide as he just oozes the love that he has for both the theatre and New York as well. Broadway Up Close obviously does their research and share every little iota of that with their patrons.
The tour of the Hudson Theatre was special as we will see Plaza Suite in 2020!!
Our thanks to Tim for an enjoyable time spent during the holidays !
Looking forward to future endeavors.

I had the pleasure of taking each and every available tour Broadway Up Close offers, and I had a wonderful time. Tim, Rhiannon and Morgan were all amazing, and it felt like they were all equally excited to both share their knowledge and engage us about our interests in Broadway.
I would recommend this company for every theater-goer who wants to know a bit more about the history of Broadway (and Hamilton). You will not be disappointed!

I took the “Broadway Beginnings” tour. Tim Dolan offers the absolutely most informative and entertaining tours about Broadway theatres, actors, history and current day going’s on. He has done his research thoroughly and provides photos, anecdotes and terrific stories for both theatre novices and veterans. He provides energy and enthusiasm along with humor; I was never bored and wished the tour could be longer! I would recommend this to every visitor, even ones who think they know everything there is to know already… He is a gem and simply the best at what he does!

We went on the Hamiltour. It was amazing. So informative and entertaining. Tim Dolan is an enthusiastic tour leader with so much knowledge about the Hamilton production to share with his audience. I would highly recommend it to anyone that enjoys history and the theatre.

Incredible tour with Tim, an hour and a half packed with Broadway history and personal stories and knowledge. Some of the theatres including the Lyceum and the Booth are beautiful, and it's fantastic to take the time and acknowledge the history contained in a few small blocks. Tim was a friendly, informative and fun guide, who took the time to get to know me and ask about my interests and tailor the tour to my preferences. The personal stories of his time in the industry were eye-opening, and his love of the industry and theatre lifestyle shone through! Would highly recommend for anyone wanting a personal, funny, insightful and jampacked Broadway tour!

My family of 5 will be there during the Christmas Holiday Season. I would like to do the general tour, but we only have Saturday Dec 28 available. Is the Shubert Brothers Tour a good choice for a family?

I agree with the answer you got 4 hours ago. Any of their tours are great.

is this tour appropriate for a 10 year old? I will be in NYC with him on a vaca!

Hey Jenny, Thanks for your question! Yes, we've had children as young as 7 years old on our Broadway sidewalks. It really depends on attention span and interest, but we have a lot of families join us - especially on our HamilTour if they're obsessed with Hamilton: An American Musical.

Tim, looking forward to your additional tour beyond 50th Street. Always interested in the background information & history of the theatre district. Especially the superstitions associated with the houses. And of course, your smiling face. When will the new tour be ready? Spring I hope. Alex.

Hey Alex, Great to hear from you! Yes, it should definitely be up and running by January, I think! I'm putting the finishing touches on it as we speak. This tour will actually be south of 50th Street...much further south...but that's the only hint I can give at this moment! Keep an eye on your email inbox just after the New Year for the official announcement and schedule. Happy Holidays and see you in the Spring I hope!
