Thanks for visiting Big Apple Jazz Tours! Since 1997 we have been on the front lines of the underground New York City jazz scene - taking small groups down into the basements and alleyways where live jazz still thrives in neighborhood nightclubs from Harlem to Greenwich Village. Legendary players and clubs as well.

All live music and transportation costs are included in the tour price. Our jazz tours take place in Manhattan for the most part, but private tours to Brooklyn, Queens or the Bronx can be arranged.

Our goal is to offer the most intimate, small group tours available to Harlem and Greenwich Village neighborhood nightclubs and juke joints. We also provide insight into the Big Apple jazz scene as it has evolved over the past hundred years.

Consider hiring Gordon Polatnick to take you on a private tour throughout the city during the day or night to experience the city's many intriguing neighborhoods at your pace and focusing on your interests.

We did a Sunday night in Harlem with Gordon, another couple from the U.K. And one from Australia. Gordon knew exactly how to bring us together but not force too much interaction. We had one club where we sat together and three where each couple sat in our own dyiad. Gordon's live for Harlem and jazz is infectious. We learned... More

Gordon is a true Jazz expert and enthusiast and when you book a tour with him, an unforgettable NYC Jazz experience is guaranteed. I booked the Harlem Juke Joints Tour which will give you a chance to see the variety of Harlem's Jazz clubs and to experience the rebirth of Harlem's jazz scene. You don't need to be a jazz... More

I'd never would have thought that I would enjoy a tour in which jazz is centralized. We went on this tour for my stepfather, since he is a great fan of jazz music. We did not expect a tour guide like Amanda whom clearly loves what she does and knows a great deal about not only the jazz scene, but... More

After coercing my hubs and son we booked Gordon for a family tour and was beyond pleased. Would never have known or experienced the Jazz scene in Harlem on my own. Very well ran guide and looking forward to doing it again next time.

We took the Harlem Juke Joint Tour. Amanda met my wife and me at Columbus Circle at dusk. We traveled to Harlem on the Subway and before the night was over, had visited 3 jazz clubs for food, drink, and outstanding local jazz. We got to meet many of the performers, who were personal friends of our flamboyant and energetic... More

We did the Greenwich Village tour. Our guide Amanda was delightfully assertive and enabled our party to watch each of 3 performances from prime vantage points. She was extremely attentive to us and paved our way to a highly memorable and enjoyable evening. Each venue was distinct and enabled us to experience and learn about three very contrasting forms of... More

This tour is a lifetime memory ! Strolling through Harlem, witnessing fantastic jazz performances in three distinctly different venues, eating great food and enjoying the insights of our tour guide Gordon exceeded our expectations. If you want to enjoy some authentic jazz and be among the Harlem culture and community, be sure to book with Apple Jazz Tour. Thanks Gordon,... More

We met Gordon in front of the Pink store in Columbus Circle and he took us on the subway to 135th street in Harlem, explaining all the way about how jazz evolved in that area and why things turned out the way they did. Our first stop was the American Legion Post 389 where we were treated like royalty by... More

Found the information on Big Apple Jazz Tours. Talked with Gordon and he set us up with the Harlem tour. It was an amazing 5 hours of good company, good food and great music. Gordon took us to places we would never have found on our own and each place was a little different and all 3 were great. At... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
