Thanks for visiting Big Apple Jazz Tours! Since 1997 we have been on the front lines of the underground New York City jazz scene - taking small groups down into the basements and alleyways where live jazz still thrives in neighborhood nightclubs from Harlem to Greenwich Village. Legendary players and clubs as well.

All live music and transportation costs are included in the tour price. Our jazz tours take place in Manhattan for the most part, but private tours to Brooklyn, Queens or the Bronx can be arranged.

Our goal is to offer the most intimate, small group tours available to Harlem and Greenwich Village neighborhood nightclubs and juke joints. We also provide insight into the Big Apple jazz scene as it has evolved over the past hundred years.

Consider hiring Gordon Polatnick to take you on a private tour throughout the city during the day or night to experience the city's many intriguing neighborhoods at your pace and focusing on your interests.

I live in NYC and have had this tour on my radar for ages. My partner and I (plus a couple friends) finally found a perfect day and booked. I'm so glad we did! We met Amanda (who is the definition of amazing) and a group of 6 or so at Columbus Circle before heading up to Harlem. A couple... More

We had a great evening out in New York walking through Harlem and learning about Harlem's history, New York's history and African American history, all of which was presented in a lively and personal way by our generous and warm guide Amanda. Additionally, the jazz performances we heard were outstanding! I highly recommend this tour. We would not have been... More

We chose to do the Harlem Juke tour and couldn't have been more pleased. Gordon was our guide for the night and you could sense his love for jazz. I highly recommend Big Apple Jazz Tour. They take you to places you probably would not have found on your end. The two of the three places we went were incredible!... More

Great to visit places that have a historical and musical significance and places that you would not necessarily know existed.

My sister and me did the Tour in August with Amanda, she is a lovely lady with great knowledge of Jazz and Blues and you can see and feel that she lives it ! We had a really nice and interesting evening, even we are not the biggest Jazz-Fans, more into Blues, but the locations were really nice and the... More

What a great night! I signed up to explore some music venues and perhaps listen to a legend.. I got that and so much more. We even ended up at a private party in the Bronx and it rocked! I left feeling blown away and made some great friends. Amanda was the hostess with the mostess! Unforgettable!

I travel all over the world but my favorite places, hands down, are the tours Gordon takes me on. He is the most knowledgeable and enthusiastic jazz buff I've ever known. Why, you might ask do I keep going again and again? It's because every time there is a new agenda, a new discovery or a new insight. Gordon just... More

This is a wonderful way to see Harlem. Amanda, was very friendly and gave a fun and interesting tour. The music was fabulous and it was really good to learn about the neighborhood and it's history. We even got to see Dee Dee Bridgewater at Minton's (jazz bar).

Fantastic music, super friendly musicians and club owners, great places in Harlem that you couldn't find on your own (even if you were a NYer probably), and la loca Amanda - one of kind in more ways than one!

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
Midtown
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
