Thanks for visiting Big Apple Jazz Tours! Since 1997 we have been on the front lines of the underground New York City jazz scene - taking small groups down into the basements and alleyways where live jazz still thrives in neighborhood nightclubs from Harlem to Greenwich Village. Legendary players and clubs as well.

All live music and transportation costs are included in the tour price. Our jazz tours take place in Manhattan for the most part, but private tours to Brooklyn, Queens or the Bronx can be arranged.

Our goal is to offer the most intimate, small group tours available to Harlem and Greenwich Village neighborhood nightclubs and juke joints. We also provide insight into the Big Apple jazz scene as it has evolved over the past hundred years.

Consider hiring Gordon Polatnick to take you on a private tour throughout the city during the day or night to experience the city's many intriguing neighborhoods at your pace and focusing on your interests.

Planned a private Jazz Tour of Harlem with Amanda. The tour was a gift to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday. He loves music of all kinds and we were visiting from Colombia, so wanted to plan a unique experience. It was perfect! We got a bit of the history of jazz in Harlem and Harlem itself and visited several great places... More

This was our second time on this tour. The first time we had Gordon as our guide. This time Amanda showed us around and took us to three venues. She is so much fun--we had an excellent time because of her friendly, ebullient personality and the selection of music and clubs. A couple of those clubs are not well known,... More

Leave your tuxedo and inhibitions at home - just be ready to enjoy a relaxed, but full, tour of a few hidden gems in Harlem. If you explore with Amanda, so much the better. Recommended.

This tour was a great way to experience life as a local for a night and enjoy amazing music along the way! Thoroughly enjoyed every second. Gordon is knowledgable and passionate about music, and really picked some cool haunts for us to spend some time in. The people we met were incredibly kind, welcoming and friendly. What a great way... The DH and I returned from a 5-day trip to NY, which included 2 Big Apple tours, both different and with a different vibe. Amanda led us from Columbus Circle to Harlem and back, and the hours flew. Our group of 10 represented four countries and ages from high school grad to father with three grown children. Yet Amanda read... More

My husband and I enjoyed doing the Harlem jazz tour with Amanda! She is so full of life, stories and such a warm person! She knew I was interested in art so she coupled our music tour with stories of Harlem artists! Thanks for a great experience, Amanda!

Amanda is a true force of nature and a pure treat . Think hurricane, tidal wave and Tasmanian devil all rolled into one and you're getting somewhere close. A wonderful six hours in Harlem exploring three perfect jazz venues flew by to soon. Each joint was very different but all special in their own way. This did not feel like... More

This was my second Harlem tour with Big Apple Jazz. Amanda is a fascinating person with great enthusiasm and knowledge. She showed us great jazz places and opened doors to exciting musical experiences. Not only the bands we saw, but also the many interesting people we met, made this a splendid evening. You don't get this on your own, you... More

Did this tour with Amanda and well worth the money. From a historical stroll through the streets of Harlem , to enjoying local jazz clubs and speakeasies it was amazing. Amanda loves what she does and it shows in her enthusiasm for Harlem and music. Unfortunately, we did this tour the first night we arrived in NYC,having been up since... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
