We came for a brief stop before visiting the Astor Place Theatre.

A vivid place with several shops and restaurants and impressive buildings.

Astor Place is an interesting open air plaza in the middle of lower Manhattan. Near NYU; a mixture of historic & modern structures surround the main plaza. Most of it is covered in concrete; I'd visit this only if walking to somewhere else.

It's a crossroads where the Lower East Side hits the East Village. Some good architecture around here, but this actual square is a big open and cold. Subway stop.

You wouldn’t come here as a destination visit, interesting for the arts and a couple of ok cafes but it’s really no more interesting than the countless thousands of streets in New York

Astor Place is a one-block street in East Village, named after John Jacob Astor. It begins at Broadway Avenue around 8th Street and goes to Lafayette Street. It is a cool area, famous for the Blue Man Group Theater and The Joseph Papp Public Theater (I enjoyed visiting both theaters). Of course, there are some cafes and restaurants to enjoy while in the neighborhood.
