Very special place

Whilst walking around in New York taking in the sights we stumbled across this church. It is amazing and well worth a visit if you like architecture.

Come here to seek piece and quiet from the crazy NYC streets. The church is spectacular and offers solitude from the crowds.

We didn't go inside St. Thomas' Church, we stumbled across it leaving The Rockerfella Centre, however, to see this beautiful church with stunning architecture amongst all the sky rise buildings was a delight to see. I can only imagine what it would look like at night, lit up

Even if you just go in to see the stained glass windows, sculptures, soaring and intricate carved wall behind the altar, and their shiny new organ, you will be awed by the interior atmosphere of this majestic structure, suffused with the prayers of thousands. In the front on the right on the stone wall is a small sculpture of Christ... More

We had a truly unbelievable experience - even though the façade of this gorgeous church is covered for cleaning we had a magnificent service - orchestra, fabulous organ, boys choir and men's choir in that simply beautiful church is something not to be missed. Their choir voices are splendid. The whole service was ethereal - truly a rival for Canterbury.... More

The choir of Men and Boys at Saint Thomas Episcopal Church on fifth avenue is totally stunning. You would imagine you were listening to one of the best cathedral choirs in the United Kingdom. Make Evensong or a regular Choral service a must do on your next trip to New York City.

This is well within walking distance of other sites to see, so it is worth the walk. Try and see it during the day and at night. It is incredible and pretty startling to see something so amazing in the midst of all the crazy new skyscraper buildings.

St. Thomas, or the Fifth Avenue Episcopal Church as it is more often referred to, is located on Fifth Avenue at Fifty-third Street and is one of the sites on my Fifth Avenue Walking Tourt. This impressive Church was opened just before 1900 when the elite were moving uptown and their churches were moving with them. (In later times, churches... More

Staying in Midtown

Neighborhood Profile
This is the iconic New York that so many visitors imagine before they visit - spectacular skyscrapers like the Chrysler Building and Empire State Building, iconic public buildings like Grand Central Terminal and the New York Public Library, and the non-stop hustle and bustle of the city streets. Fifth Avenue is a shopper's paradise where you can find every kind of store imaginable, with fashion brands ranging from the affordable to the ultra-fancy. Visit Rockefeller Center to experience towering Art Deco grandeur, and foodies will love the busy restaurants that stay open late in Koreatown. After dark, Midtown calms down a bit, but at any time of day or night it still feels 100% New York.
