This museum looks fun but it is small, they are very cheap and don't use good quality art supplies for the kids--just leftovers from who knows where. Everything is dirty--the aprons are not freshened up. There's not really much to do and it was so busy the kids had to wait forever and get pushed around to use anything. If you want to see how a really good children's art museum is run visit the Kids Creativity Museum in San Francisco, there is even a merry go round and a playground nearby.

We are very sorry to hear that you and your family had a poor experience at CMA. We serve thousands of children and families each year and strive to offer high quality arts programming that families can enjoy together. We deeply appreciate your feedback and hope you will consider a free return visit to the museum. Please send an email to cma[at]cmany[dot]org and we would be happy to offer you a better experience!

The children's museum is a very nice place. Gives the children a clever point of view about the arts.

Stumbled across this absolute gem by accident when meandering through Manhattan on a hot July afternoon. As the theme attracted our attention we peeked in and were instantly hooked. When the museum closed a couple of hours later our children (5&7) just did not want to leave. The experience consists of two parts - the gallery and the workshops. The gallery had several exhibitions ongoing - interesting enough for our little ones to spend some serious amount of time studying and interacting with the pieces. It was however the workshops that really caught their attention. Screen prints, oil painting, clay, collages, scultping, animation and sound art is all available with varying degrees of mentoring from the super friendly and fun staff. Be advised that a few of the workshops require singing up as spaces are limited.

We love this little museum! We started coming here when the kids were smaller, and took advantage of the "below 5 y.o." rooms and programs. Now, that my oldest is in Middle school, the museum is still a great attraction. The media lab allows kids to explore the world of animation, Sound Booth makes them interested in the sounds, at Clay Bar the kids build their own sculptures, and at the artist studio they run their imagination run wild!

My friend and I are long-standing members of the Children's Museum of the Arts. We bring our adopted children to art and sound design classes every week. They really enjoy taking part in these activities and making new friends there. The art classes are very helpful. They play a role in developing our children's confidence, awarness and expression. We invite everyone to join the CMA Family and to support their annual events by small monthly donations. We believe that every child deserves high quality education. The specialized programs that we support help children with physical and development disabilities to develop their language and social skills, conflict resolution and their sense of community through the art. Making art as a family increases parent-child bonds and provides parents a change from the standard role of disciplinarian.
