Booked a Foods of NY Tours walking tour: The Original Greenwich Village Food and Culture Walking Tour! Could not have been better to learn about the "old neighborhood" while eating our way around. Lots of sights to see, cool architecture, nice people and shopkeepers, too. Would highly recommend. Ask for Cindy if she's in town - a fabulous tour guide.

Been to NYC many times but this was my first. I must say it was a great experience on the food tour - so many interesting restaurants , great food ( especially the artichoke pizza, falafel, korean food etc that was so good and unique, nice place to walk around and explore as the place has so much character. This is my favourite part of New York, it is perfect for a relaxing brunch, a walk, shopping in one off places- it has a vibe around it of chilled relaxation. There is always something to see, it is perfect for the people watcher and architecture fan.

Some of my favorite moments while traveling involve wandering neighborhoods and discovering shops, restaurants and out of the way places. My favorite neighborhood in New York is Greenwich Village. It still maintains the character you read about from the beatniks and the hippies in the 1960s. As a gay man, going to Stonewall Inn and seeing the location of the... More

Greenwich Village is the older section of Manhattan, which makes it much more charming than most of the island. Interesting shops and restaurants are everywhere. I love to stroll the tree-lined streets and just wander around. The area is loosely south of 14th Street and north of Houston Street, bordered by Park Avenue on the east and Seventh Avenue on... Greenwich Village is a truly unique area of New York City. I've been going to the village for 7-8 years on an annual NYC visit and still find new and fascinating businesses and restaurants. Always go back to my favorite coffee place Porto Rico Importing Co. on Bleecker Street to start the day. Great area of the city for general... More

Lovely area to walk around with plenty of small independent shops and cafes. Walk through the arch into Washington Park and see the locals at play. Be prepared to be challenged by the locals to a game of chess and soak up the atmosphere.

Washington Square Park provides great views of NYC college buildings, chess players, street jazz musicians, a bubble blower, a piano player, warm spiced nuts, dogs, tour groups, and street performers. There is always something happening here and the park is bordered by interesting pastry shops and other businesses. Family-friendly and fun.

Staying in Greenwich Village

Neighborhood Profile
Greenwich Village
Commonly known as “the Village” to New Yorkers, it was here in Greenwich Village that both 1960’s counter culture and the LGBT movement were born. Famous for its bohemian past, head to Washington Square Park to get a feel for this diverse and energetic neighborhood. You’ll find NYU students, street performers, skateboarders, kids frolicking in the fountain, and locals relaxing and playing chess. Stroll the streets to discover a mix of majestic town homes and hidden bars and restaurants that give this neighborhood an old-school residential feel. When the sun goes down, check out one of the famous jazz or comedy clubs that still packs them in every night.
