About
The Intrepid Museum celebrates the people and technological innovations that have shaped, and continue to shape, our world. It is an immersive and fun place where history and STEM are showcased through marvels such as the world’s first space shuttle; the world’s fastest commercial airliner; a nuclear-weapons-carrying submarine; and dozens of military aircraft, including a supersonic spy plane, all displayed in and around the historic landmark aircraft carrier, Intrepid.

- BigBirdEdinburghLivingston, United Kingdom402 contributionsVery good day outI chose this for my 50th birthday treat! I loved it and my wife said she really enjoyed it too. Some of the aircraft are a bit dated but still good to see and enjoyable. The craft on the main deck are really good as is the space shuttle experience. Some space on the lower deck which shows possible improvements to come but plenty to keep you entertained. We almost passed on the submarine tour but glad we didn’t - it was very interesting. A shout out to all the volunteers - some really interesting veterans with brilliant stories, make sure you speaking them and get them talking!! It’s worth it!Visited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 14, 2023
- Priti PTampa, Florida21 contributionsIncredible family museumIncredible family museum to visit! My 8 year old son couldn’t get enough of the planes on the upper deck and enjoyed sitting in the captain’s seat inside. The submarine was also cool but had a line to get inside. I’d suggest checking the weather before heading here because much of it is outside on the river which can get unpleasant when rainy and/or windy.Visited October 2023Traveled with familyWritten October 23, 2023
- S_HvassBramming, Denmark719 contributionsPrepare to be impressed. This is an amazing museum - everything there is just huge! The aircraft carrier itself is very impressive, and so are the planes, the space shuttle and the submarine. We enjoyed our visit very much. The exhebitions in the museum are very informative and interesting, and you could spend an entire day there. Eventhough you have to pay extra for it, you should not miss out on the 3D experience of travelling into space in the space shuttle area. It's so much fun!Visited October 2023Traveled with friendsWritten November 18, 2023
- catherineBrighton, United Kingdom13 contributionsAmerican aircraft carrier, submarine and space shuttle prototypeIntrepid was a fascinating museum with so much to see. You could easily spend 3 or 4 hours there. We toured the submarine and the aircraft carrier. The prototype space shuttle was also there. Unfortunately, Concorde was not there at the time we visited. There were numerous exhibitions and films. The film footage of the Kamakazi pilot attacks on the ship was fascinating. There was a large number of planes and helicopters, including the 'Top Gun' type of plane. We used the New York Pass, so were able to go straight into the museum without queuing.Visited December 2023Traveled with familyWritten December 17, 2023
- Simon Williams 🇬🇧🏴Cardiff, United Kingdom173 contributionsExcellent Museum with lots to see.Excellent Museum with lots to see. Im very much into military history and space so this was very interesting. There is so much to see from aircraft from the Vietnam era to NASA Space shuttle. The ship is huge. Which saw lots of active service. I particularly liked the veterans chatting to people as you go around. Lots of tight spaces so maybe not so great for someone not very mobile. This was one of the best sites in NYC . I would highly recommend.Visited August 2023Traveled with friendsWritten January 19, 2024
- BeakerTXSan Antonio, Texas584 contributionsWorth a visitGreat exhibit! 2 hrs was enough for our family. Always impressive to see a space shuttle. Disappointed the concord wasn’t there, as that was one of the reasons we went. Nothing obvious on the website that it wasn’t there and no mention of its absence when buying tickets. Still plenty to see and do.Visited December 2023Traveled with familyWritten January 20, 2024
- Luke22 contributionsUnbelievable experienceWorth every penny. Loads to do and see. It is a humbling day out. Probably not the best if you have restricted mobility due to steep stairs and narrow passageways. Also if you’re claustrophobic it might not be the best especially on the submarine. Exceptional experience and I have absolutely no faults. There are veterans there who have served on the ship and can give excellent insights.Visited January 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten January 20, 2024
- I WLeicestershire, United Kingdom352 contributionsFantastic museumWe spent all afternoon on a Tuesday in May looking around this museum. We only bought the general entry and didn't pre book, and had no problem getting in, without queuing. Really interesting walking around the aircraft carrier, and there were some retired sailors who were really interesting to talk to. We also went round the submarine and could walk round a space shuttle. Awesome! We must have easily spent 3 hours there.Visited May 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten June 16, 2024
- parrottdizeDyer, Indiana2,375 contributionsEasy walk from cruise port.We were lucky that our cruise ship docked in Manhattan, right next to the Intrepid museum. A very easy walk! It is open everyday, weekdays 10 to 5 and weekends 10 to 6 in the summer. Tickets are $36....$34 (seniors) PP. If you are veteran it is free (do bring a valid ID , such as VA or something that shows your are a veteran). There are some tours that are extra $. For the general admission you get to see the submarine the aircraft carrier and space shuttle pavilion. There is so much to see, lots of planes, lots of exhibits etc. Some of the areas are not accessible to those who mobile impaired.Visited June 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten July 27, 2024

A great way to spend an afternoon in NYC offering an interesting & educational experience for adults and kids alike.
Its costs c.$33 for an adult ticket (which I felt was a little pricey) with some additional costs associated with different experiences/attractions once onboard.
The USS Intrepid is a must see for anyone with even a passing interest in history/warfare. There is plenty to see onboard and some great excerpts regarding life aboard the vessel in years gone by.
The Aircraft on display on the deck are fantastic to see up close and personal particularly the stealth jet and the vietnam helicopter.
The space shuttle was a personal favorite given I had seen the sister ship in Cape Canaveral previously. The contrast between the two shuttles is noticeable and the sheer size of same is impressive.
Really enjoyed geting aboard the Growler, its really hard to imagine just how a team managed to love aboard same when it was in active service. Navigating the Growler isnt for all with many narrow passages and doorways. At 6’2’’ myself, I did wonder how many of the sailors managed aboard the vessel when on duty.
It was great to see a number of veterans working aboard by the Intrepid and Growler - full of knowledge and usual snippets on info on the workings of such vessels.

We arrived to the line about 10:40 (museum opened at 10:00). We had a City Pass and were shuttled to the vouchers line, which took over an hour. People who had NOT prepaid for tickets were in a line that lasted less than 10 minutes. As a result, I was unable to get a ticket to see the Concord, which was really the only thing I was interested in doing. Extremely disappointed and incredibly poor planning to punish the people who prepaid for admission.
The museum exhibits themselves were well done and interesting and the docents were wonderful.

These people could learn a thing or two from the Empire State Building about queue management. We visited on 26 Dec, arriving just before 11am. We then waited 50 minutes in the queue before even getting in the door to security. Once past, we then had another 20 minute wait to exchange our City Pass for a ticket. Why? Was it just to try to up-sell us on the additional items? After the long wait, we headed straight to the restrooms and guess what - another queue, as there are only 2 female toilets on the restaurant/cafe floor and 1 was out of order. The whole entry procedure left us disappointed in our day out at Intrepid.

We visit this museum on January 1 (yes they are open), bought the guided tour intrepid 101, it was totally worthed. The museum itself is huge and we could visit both the submarine and the ship. There are more than 20 aircraft on the deck and the guided tour was very informative. We were explained not only where and when the aircraft were use but also their advantages also disadvantages vs older aircraft. Overall this museum is a must visit even for a non airspace/aircraft/ warship fan

A great way for petrolheads to kill a couple of hours. When I went they had a Concorde plane to investigate and a space shuttle in addition to the other permanent exhibits. Loads of planes and helicopters to marvel at and the ship had lots of veteran volunteers who bought the exhibits to life with their stories. That was my favourite thing about the museum.

We went to visit it in the morning, expecting a long wait to get the tickets. We saw a very long queue, so we lined up resigned to wait for an hour or more... A member of the staff came and asked all the people in line if they had New York Pass, we said "no" so she said we were in the wrong queue, she showed us where to go: no wait at all, we instantly got our tickets and came in (I think maybe most of the people had the "pass"... ). The ship is amazing, so rich of history, and the museum is incredible too: so many fighter jets, the shuttle, and you can walk in and out the ship to see all the different rooms. I had never seen anything like that. We spent five hours there until closing time, we would have liked to stay longer.

We bought a simulator 4 d experience ticket ahead of time and came here first in line- we were asked to step out because apparently there was a Birthday Party and they wanted to go ahead of us. We were with a kid so we had to wait for another 20-30 minutes to go back in. I asked if we could get into their other flight simulator for a discount since we now had to wait but they would not give us any discounts. Really poor customer service. Not nice :(

I wanted to add a patriotic museum to my Fourth of July tour in New York and the Intrepid had a lot of history and was interactive.
My companion was part of a navy family and he stated that the experience brought to life some of the stories he’d heard growing up about what it’s like being on a ship.
We saw the captains quarters and where the sailors slept. We were able to go to the helm and look at every part of the ship.
My favorite part was the shuttle Enterprise. It’s huge and there are placards explaining how the name was derived from Star Trek.
It was really fun. Lots to see. Walking distance from midtown.

I've lived and worked in the city, and come to visit many times, but I was surprised at how long it took me to visit this museum. Permanently housed at Pier 86, it's a testament to the lived experiences of the US military while not being overly jingoistic.
It's incredibly informative while also being very hands-on, so you get to actually experience the things you're learning about during your visit. Seeing the old submarine and aircrafts was great, and it was very eye-opening to see where the sailors lived and ate (which were much smaller than I realized, even though I knew on an intellectual basis that they were very small - but seeing is believing!). They also have exhibits on other parts of military and maritime history, such as kamikazes, the Cold War, and the Vietnam War. I think I could come back here and learn something new every time.

Hi,
I've been trying to purchase tickets online now for a few weeks and I cannot get the website to function.
I can select a date (I've tried multiple dates) but I cannot "confirm your visit" nor can I go to the next step.
I've tried multiple browers and computers, and even used a VPN to simulate being in the USA (I'm in Australia).
I'd like to purchase my tickets in advance but simply cannot make the system work.
Can you assist?
Also - how's the Concorde Experience looking? Any update on when it will be open?
Thanks :)
Written January 10, 2024
I’ve just tried buying tickets from the UK and it seems to be working fine. I got as far as the payment page?
Regarding the Concorde Exhibition it was originally suppose to reopen in Spring 2024 but when I googled it I found information about a reopening night in July being offfered to current armed forces personal and retired veterans. I just asked Google when it was scheduled to reopen at intrepid, perhaps check it out yourself.
Hope this helps

Does the Museum participate in the ASTC Passport Program? The list on the ASTC website includes the Intrepid but the Intrepid website makes no mention of this partnership. Thank you.

I have a 16 year old and a 12 year old...Will this be a good activity for them? And for adults too?
Written January 13, 2020
Yes. I was not particularly keen o go to this attraction but my husband is a plane enthusiast. There was plenty to keep my interest. Your children would enjoy the submarine & seeing Concorde. Think there were interactive activities for children but didn't really register these as we were on our own. Perhaps take food with you as food in the cafe was dire! There is a food market which includes a good Italian restaurant about 4 minutes walk away, over the main highway. Have fun.
