This Monument is located at the south east end of Central Park on 5th Avenue. It looks very impressive and stands out when in the area. Certainly worth a photo stop.

This statue is very impressive, the gold looks amazing. I love the detail, especially that the horse has one leg up to show it is running.

Striking golden statue located at the southeast entrance to Central Park that is unmissable. It was erected in 1903 at Grand Army Plaza to honor the celebrated Union Army general. He distinguished himself in the Vicksburg and Chatanooga campaigns and is most well-known for Sherman's March to the Sea during which he blazed a trail of utter destruction across the South on his way to Atlanta and later the Carolinas leading to the surrender of the Confederacy. The phrase "War is Hell" is attributed to Sherman.

As a big fan William T. Sherman I love this area of the city. I always snap a photo here and stroll through the park as a tradition.

The gilded bronze equestrian statue of the American Civil War general, William Sherman shown with the victory goddess Nike leading his horse, is set on a high pedestal in the Grand Army Plaza, opposite the Plaza Hotel on 59th Street at 5th Ave. It is a marvellous sight seen from inside a bus that travels along 5th Avenue because passengers are at eye level with these gleaming yellow figures. This city square is formal in nature with with low trimmed shrubbery and seasonal flowers. It takes up a block of city space. While there are benches to sit on in this square, people also walk through it to reach an entrance to Central Park.
The other half of this square, bounded by 59th and 58th Ave, has a large multi-tiered fountain which takes up a good portion of the square. It too is a city block in size and offers benches to rest, seasonal flowers, and a trimmed green shrub border. The fountain, called Pulitzer Fountain, was financed by the owner of New York newspapers in the early 1900s.
Because of the spacious of these city squares and the benches, the Grand Army Plaza could be used as meeting points for groups, particularly when groups split up to do various activities like visit nearby attractions such as Central Park, St. Patrick's Cathedral, Rockefeller Center, MOMA, or shop on 5th Ave.

A great looking gold leaf, bronze statue of the famous Union Civil War General Sherman was erected in 1903 in the south eastern corner of Central Park. It was refurbished in 2014 and under a sheet of snow it really looks the goods ! A great looking monument.

This shiny statue is located on 5th Avenue, on the southeast corner of Central Park, right on Grand Army Plaza. The artist, Augustus Saint-Gaudens, created the statue in 1902 and the granite pedestal was designed by the architect Charles Follen McKim. It is made of gilded bronze, decorating this central area.
