Overview
New York City’s bohemian legacy is strong but can seem to travelers like ancient history. This tour is a masterclass in the history of the Greenwich Village and East Village punk scenes of the 1960s and ‘70s, visiting the fateful places where musicians—from the Velvet Underground to Blondie—lived, rehearsed, and performed. The tour also pays special attention to New York City punk’s LGBTQ roots and the East Village’s broader history.

I had such a great experience on the Indie Rock Walking tour. Speaking as a dedicated indie-rock fan, this tour really delivered and was so informative and unique. Jesse did a great job detailing the history of the music scene and how the neighborhood impacted and/or interfered with its growth. Jesse's knowledge of the scene is impressive and he offered interesting insight on the future of the music scene post-COVID. I highly recommend this tour to anyone, especially now.

CBGB, The Ramones, The Velvet Underground , Talking Heads, Patti Smith, New York dolls and, Bowie! Had a great afternoon with Jesse who is incredibly knowledgable of all things music in NYC. He should write a book about it! If you like music then this is the walking tour to go on.

We spent a great afternoon with Jesse visiting some of the key sites in the story of the origins of punk music - this tour was fascinating and entertaining enough to make us forget the freezing weather! Jesse knows his punk onions and pulls together lots of threads to weave a memorable picture of this unique time in music history.

We toured Soho, Bowery, and NoLita for this tour on a cold afternoon and loved it! Jesse is great! We could really envision what was happening forty years ago in the buildings we visited through his stories and accompanying pictures. We would come back to the city just to do some other tours. It reignited our interest in a bunch of bands we haven't listened to in a while!
