Manhattan bridge is the next bridge north from the iconic Brooklyn bridge. Contrary to the Brooklyn bridge it is made entirely of steel, yet it's beautiful.
However, crossing it on foot is less interesting as the walking paths are on bridge sides, while on Brooklyn it's in the middle. Therefore, you have obstructed views of the other side.
You can capture terrific pics of Manhattan bridge (seen in so many movies) from the Dumbo area beneath it, which is very interesting to explore as well.

This long and important bridge has its own grace. We could see it out the window of the apartment where we stayed and loved the view. It carries cars, subway trains and pedestrians between Brooklyn and the Lower East Side. Also creates the space for the classic Dumbo area.

We had a wander down the river in the dark and sat on the swings on Pier 35 which give great views of the Manhattan and Brooklyn bridges. There was a lot of building work going on by the river but you could still access some of the river path. Lovely all lit up at night and always busy with traffic!

Of the five bridges I walked during my visit in NYC, the Manhattan bridge was the worst.

On the plus side, you will have peek-a-boot views of the Brooklyn Bridge and Manhattan skylines. Unlike the Brooklyn Bridge, you won't have to navigate the gauntlet of vendors selling NYC merch or offering the use of their rotating cameras. It's also free to walk.

Negatives are plenty:
The pedestrian walkway is narrower and hemmed in on the north (uptown side) by multiple trains. The south view encumbered by fence or the bridge structure. You can poke a camera between railings to snap a beautiful photo, though.

You cannot easily see the bridge towers from the bridge

Wait, did he say 'multiple trains?' Yes, I did. Every few minutes, you'll be subjected to the cacophony of random clanking and metal on metal action. Hope you brought earplugs!

Graffiti everywhere, and it's mostly tagging, not the artistic mural types.

Even though it is often mistaken for the Brooklyn Bridge, this bridge is actually the one in Once Upon a Time in America. It is featured in other movies, but that movie poster is the most famous. That shot is beautiful and captures the bridge in a romantic sort of way.

However, it is also an important bridge as it shares the load with Brooklyn and Williamsburg. Another important factor is that this is a rail bridge allowing the trains to cross boroughs.

I personally really like it and think it is just as important as the Brooklyn Bridge.

Having walked across the Brookly Bridge from Manhattan in the morning and done a tour of Brooklyn during the day, we walked back over the Manhattan Bridge.

Just looked at on its own merits, it is a stunning work of functional architecture. When you look closely on the pedestrian walkway, it is less cared for than its Brooklyn Bridge brother. Graffiti abounds and is not being removed, which is a shame.

There is also much more noise are there are cars/lorries on two levels of roadway and four subway tracks, so at times it feels like you need earplugs.

To balance this, the view is superb and makes up for its other shortcomings.

We didn't get to ride the subway across in either direction but it is on the list of things to do next time!

Located Downtown, Manhattan Bridge connects Chinatown in Lower Manhattan and Downtown Brooklyn. Opened in 1909, it is still celebrated as an engineering marvel. My wife and I had the opportunity to sail under this amazing structure when partaking of an islands cruise tour and really enjoyed the experience.

We walked over Manhattan Bridge after walking across Brooklyn Bridge and getting some photos in Dumbo. Manhattan Bridge is much quieter than Brooklyn Bridge which suited us better. A lot of places to stop along the way to take photos.

We walked over Brooklyn Bridge and took numerous photos for other walkers. Walking back to Manhattan via Manhattan Bridge was energetic but restful. Fewer people and less of a view but much less hassle. We walked at a slow pace and really enjoyed it.

The hanging overshadow of Brooklyn Bridge makes this foul smelling noisy bridge a less favourite among.
