More needed

Only a handful of stops added to the ageing MTA subway system, the Second Avenue Subway provides easier access to attractions near the East River on the Upper East Side. Never been to Gracie Mansion or Carl Schurz Park? Take the Second Avenue Subway. If you departing from Coney Island at the bottom of Brooklyn, you do not even need to transfer.

New & Modern
Aug 2018 • Couples
We had read so much about the new Second Avenue subway, we had to try it. Yes the stations and car are new and modern.

It definitely fills a void for those living or working on the East side of Manhattan.

New York's newest subway stations
Jul 2018
After 10 years of disruption and noise, the Q line opened and has made an amazing difference. One can travel from the Upper East Side straight to Coney Island and the Aquarium without needing to transfer. On top of which, each of the three stations--96th Street, 86th Street, and 72nd Street--has been beautified with mosaics by different artists, the most famous perhaps being Chuck Close, whose mosaic portraits adorn the 86th Street stop. People visit the stations to take photographs of the mosaics and stop to hear the occasional concert by some excellent musicians. Definitely worth a detour.

Second Avenue Subway Art Tour
Apr 2018 • Solo
Entertaining Walking Tours Guide, Phil Desire, gave an interesting, lively, well-paced tour of the art in the four subway stations of the “new”(1 year old) Second Avenue Subway life be. Make sure to have a Metro Card to enter the subway station.

The long awaited 2nd Avenue Q line has new cars & beautiful canopy entrances with elevators. The murals in the stations are beautiful.
best thing it’s easy to get from the east side to the west side without taking the shuttle

Actually, the Q line is the only upper east side line that runs to Times Square, Penn Station and on to Coney Island. The elevators, staircasas, lifts and new stations connecting 63rd Street make this line very well planned. Given a choice of the 6 or the Q, the Q is a much better route to take if you want to enjoy everything there is to offer in Mid town West. Yes, I am a big fan.

2nd Avenue Subway Art
Nov 2017 • Solo
Start at the 96th Street to see Sarah Sze's "Blueprint for Landscape" mosaics mounted in laminated glass and ceramic tiles. At 86th Street there's Chuck Close's "Peers" mosaic of his wife and a friend. At 72nd St. Vik Munoz's "Perfect Strangers" mosaics are shown.Jean Shih's "Elevated" mosaic in laminated glass and ceramics reflect the former 3rd Avenue El being dismantled.Be sure to ride in the last car and go to the upper level to view the artwork along the 2nd Avenue "Q" subway line.

JUST CHECKING MY VERTIGO !
Jun 2017 • Family
Nice new subway station. Our luck was that on the day we were there the up escalator was not in working order. What a trek it was climbing up a staircase with a very sharp incline. I couldn't look back !!!!!
